The expert warning, in the Soviet pattern
Armenian court expertise follows the Soviet-inherited pattern: the expert signs an acknowledgment that they have been warned of criminal liability for a knowingly false conclusion, appearing at the head of the report.
It is a procedural requirement rather than boilerplate, and its absence is a defect. We translate it.
The national bureau of expertises
Expertise is carried out principally by state institutions — the national bureau of expertises and the forensic medical scientific centre — and by licensed private experts, and the report states which.
The institution is part of the report's weight. We name it and reproduce the case and report numbers.
The questions, and the supplementary expertise
The report answers the questions the court or investigator put, and where the conclusion is incomplete or contested the court may order a supplementary or repeat expertise, sometimes by a different institution.
So a file may hold successive reports, and the later one is operative. We translate the sequence with dates.
The alphabet, and the patronymic
Armenian has its own alphabet and no single accepted romanisation, and surnames ending -յան appear as -yan or -ian. One family name.
