How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

Foundation for International Services requires English translations, preferably certified, of all non-English documents needed for the evaluation, and it does not restrict who may make them.

FIS accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

FIS also sells its own translations by quote, which extend the evaluation's due date; eVerbary translates your records and does not order the evaluation or request records from your school.

FIS at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

FIS asks for English translations, preferably certified, of the non-English documents needed for the evaluation, without limiting who may translate (evaluation services), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about FIS

Preferably certified

FIS prefers certified translations but does not require them.

Only what is evaluated

Translations are needed for documents used in the evaluation.

Upload or mail

Upload online; mail originals if needed, returned afterwards.

FIS requirements in detail

Translation

English translations, preferably certified, of all non-English documents necessary for the evaluation (FIS: credential evaluations).

Who may translate

Not specified: FIS names no required translator or credential.

Self-translation

Not addressed; FIS states only a preference for certified translations.

Original or copy

Upload documents online; you may instead mail original transcripts and diplomas, which FIS returns after the evaluation (FIS: credential evaluations).

FIS's own option

Translations by estimate, with a certificate of translation accuracy; two notarized hard copies cost $30 more (FIS: translations). FIS quotes only the documents needed for the evaluation.

Timing

Adding FIS translations extends the turnaround; the fastest combined document-by-document evaluation with translation is three business days (FIS: certified translations order page).

Notarization

Not required by FIS for outside translations; FIS offers notarized hard copies of its own.

A preference, not a mandate

FIS's wording is softer than most agencies': English translations are required, "preferably certified" (FIS: credential evaluations). It does not name a required translator credential or forbid any source.

The receiving institution may be stricter.

A university, licensing board or employer that receives the FIS report may also want the diploma or transcript in English and may require a certified translation; a certified translation from a professional service covers FIS's preference and those rules at once.

Translate only what FIS evaluates

FIS asks for translations of the documents necessary to perform the evaluation, and its own service translates only those unless you ask for more (FIS: translations). Usually that means the diploma and the transcript or mark sheets; supporting documents such as letters are not always needed.

If you plan to use the same translation elsewhere, for example for USCIS or a state board, include every page of each document, front and back, so the one translation works for all recipients.

Need a certified translation for FIS?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Diplomas and degree certificates
  • Transcripts and mark sheets
  • Secondary school certificates
  • Professional licenses, for employment or licensing evaluations

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to FIS

  • Create an FIS account and upload the documents and translations with your application; if you cannot upload, or your recipient requires it, mail the originals, which FIS returns by mail after the evaluation (FIS: credential evaluations).

  • eVerbary delivers the translation as a signed PDF, ready to upload.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we do not order the evaluation for you, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For FIS that means we translate your records; the evaluation, any expert opinion letter and the delivery of the report are between you and FIS.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does FIS require certified translations?

FIS requires English translations and prefers certified ones (FIS: credential evaluations).

Can I use a translation company other than FIS?

Yes. FIS does not restrict who translates; its own translation service is a separate, optional fee (FIS: credential evaluations).

Does FIS notarize translations?

FIS offers two notarized hard copies of its own translations for $30 (FIS: translations). It does not ask for notarized outside translations.

Will a translation slow down my FIS evaluation?

Ordering FIS translations extends the due date (FIS: certified translations order page); a translation you already have does not.
