How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
ECE requires an English translation of every document not issued in English unless you add its $85 Translation Waiver, and it accepts any complete, literal, word-for-word translation in the same format as the original, including one you prepare yourself.
ECE accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, and for pharmacy (NABP/FPGEC) reports, where you may not translate your own documents, it names a professional translation service among the acceptable sources. eVerbary translates the documents; ECE evaluates them, and we do not order the evaluation or request records from your school.
ECE at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
ECE accepts a complete, literal, word-for-word English translation from any source (documentation requirements), and its NABP rules list "a professional translation service" as an acceptable source (NABP requirements), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Worth knowing about ECE
Self-translation allowed
Word-for-word and in the same format; ECE does not require an official translation.
$85 Translation Waiver
ECE translates for its report only; you receive no translation.
Stricter for NABP
Official translator, signed pages on letterhead, proof of credentials.
ECE requirements in detail
Translation
Required for every document issued in a language other than English, unless you add the ECE Translation Waiver to your order (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ).
Who may translate
Anyone, as long as the translation is complete, legible, literal, word-for-word and in the same format as the original (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ). ECE's FAQ adds that you do not need to pay for an official translation (FAQ).
Self-translation
Allowed for standard reports (ECE: frequently asked questions blog). Not allowed for reports ordered for NABP/FPGEC (ECE: NABP documentation requirements).
Original or copy
Submit complete, legible copies of the translations (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ). The academic documents follow your country's rule: a photocopy or scan, an original, or a document sealed by the institution.
How to submit
Apply online first and print the Document Matching Form. Where the country page allows a photocopy or scan, email it as a PDF to ecemail@ece.org; originals and sealed documents go by mail (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ).
ECE's own option
The ECE Translation Waiver costs $85 and covers General, Course-by-Course, High School and Subject Analysis reports; ECE translates for the purpose of preparing the report and does not issue a translation (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ). Not available for NABP orders.
Notarization
Not asked for in ECE's general translation rule. For NABP/FPGEC, the translator signs and dates each page and attaches an accuracy statement and proof of credentials instead.
Pharmacy (NABP/FPGEC)
An original, official, word-for-word translation by a certified translator, court interpreter, government official, the pharmacy school, a professional translation service or a university language department (ECE: NABP documentation requirements).
Three ways to meet ECE's translation rule
ECE is one of the few agencies that lets you translate your own records for a standard report, provided the translation is word-for-word and keeps the layout of the original (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ).
The second option is the Translation Waiver: for $85 ECE translates internally for the purpose of the report, so you send no translation at all. The third is a translation from a professional service.
The waiver produces no document you can reuse.
If the university, employer or board that receives your ECE report also wants your diploma or transcript in English, or you will apply to another agency later, a certified translation covers both uses.
A professional translation also helps when you are not sure how to render grade names, course titles or stamps word for word.
Documents in sealed envelopes
Some countries require records sealed by the institution.
ECE's answer: if the sealed document matches one you already have, translate the copy you hold; if you do not know what the envelope contains, ask the institution for two sealed sets and open one to have it translated (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ).
The waiver also solves this, since ECE then translates the contents itself.
Documents ECE receives in an institution-sealed envelope are not returned; unsealed originals and copies are sent back with the report.
Pharmacy graduates: the NABP/FPGEC rules
Reports for the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee follow NABP's own rules (ECE: NABP documentation requirements). You may not translate your own documents, and the waiver is not available.
The translation must be an original, official, word-for-word translation, including every seal and stamp, prepared and certified by an official translator; NABP accepts a professional translation service or a university language department.
Each page must be signed and dated by the translator on official stationery, with an accuracy statement and proof of the translator's credentials; the translation does not need to arrive in a sealed envelope.
If your order is for NABP, write that in the quote notes so we can confirm the format with you before you pay.
Need a certified translation for ECE?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Degree certificates and diplomas
- Transcripts, mark sheets and grade reports
- Secondary school leaving certificates and national exam results
- Pharmacy degree and pharmacy school transcripts, for NABP/FPGEC reports
- Degree confirmation letters, where a program had no coursework
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to ECE
ECE matches documents to an application, so apply online first and print the Document Matching Form.
Translations and any document your country page allows as a photocopy or scan can be emailed as PDF attachments to ecemail@ece.org; originals and sealed documents are mailed to ECE with the form (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ).
For NABP/FPGEC reports, the original translation is mailed with the pharmacy documents; ECE then sends its report directly to NABP (ECE: NABP documentation requirements).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we do not order the evaluation for you, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For ECE that means we translate your records; the evaluation, the Translation Waiver and the Document Matching Form are between you and ECE.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I translate my own documents for ECE?
Yes, for standard reports, if the translation is complete, literal, word-for-word and in the same format as the original (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ). Not for NABP/FPGEC reports (ECE: NABP documentation requirements).
What is the ECE Translation Waiver?
An $85 add-on: you send no translations and ECE translates for the purpose of preparing the report (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ). It does not give you a translation, and it is not available for NABP orders.
Does ECE accept a translation from a translation company?
Yes. ECE's rule covers any word-for-word translation, and its NABP page names a professional translation service as acceptable (ECE: NABP documentation requirements).
Do I send the original translation or a copy?
ECE asks for complete, legible copies (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ). For NABP reports it asks for the original official translation (ECE: NABP documentation requirements).
My transcript must come sealed. How do I get it translated?
Translate a matching copy you hold, request two sealed sets from your school and open one, or add the waiver (ECE: documentation requirements and FAQ).
