York College asks graduate applicants whose transcripts are not issued in English to include a certified English translation with each transcript, without saying who must make it.

York College (CUNY) accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Undergraduate and transfer applicants apply through CUNY, and York recommends The Evaluation Company for evaluating international transcripts; that evaluation is something we do not provide.

York College at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

York's graduate international admissions page asks for a certified English translation with any transcript not issued in English and does not restrict who translates (graduate international admissions); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. York College requirements in detail

Translation (graduate)

A certified English translation accompanying each transcript not issued in English (Graduate international admissions).

Who may translate

Not stated by York; CUNY's guidelines for undergraduates accept a translation agency.

Graduate programs

Aviation, Clinical Trial Management, Nursing Education, MSW, Pharmaceutical Science and Business and Physician Assistant each set their own requirements (Graduate international admissions).

Transfer evaluation

TEC is York's recommended international transcript evaluator, through a custom discounted application; other services are on CUNY's list (Transfer admissions).

Timing

After submitting to TEC, expect an update on your CUNY application in about 3-4 weeks (Transfer admissions).

Undergraduate

Through CUNY's application; translations follow CUNY's Document Translation Guidelines (CUNY guidelines).

Graduate programs: a certified translation, then the program's rules

York's master's programs set their own admission requirements, and the central international page adds one rule for everyone: applicants who submit transcripts not issued in English must include a certified English translation with them, and international students must be ready to show English competence (Graduate international admissions).

Check your program, Physician Assistant or the MSW for example, for any evaluation it asks for, and translate the degree certificate as well as the transcript.

International applicants must be accepted into the program before starting the student visa process, so order the translation early enough to complete the application first.

Transfers: TEC's York application

For transfer students, York names The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran) as its recommended evaluator; TEC built a custom application for York that selects the right evaluation at a discounted rate, and York says your CUNY application usually shows an update 3-4 weeks after TEC receives your documents (Transfer admissions).

TEC accepts outside translations only from a translator certified by ATA (TEC); eVerbary can assign one through a free quote for the languages ATA certifies.

Other evaluators are on CUNY's list, and undergraduate translations follow CUNY's guidelines, which accept a translation agency (CUNY Document Translation Guidelines (PDF)). See the CUNY page for the central rules.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University transcripts and degree certificates
  • Secondary school records, for undergraduate admission
  • Grading scale of each transcript

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to York College

  • Graduate applicants upload each transcript with its certified English translation in the program application (Graduate international admissions). We can also email the translation directly to the admissions office on request.

  • Transfer applicants using TEC send the translation to TEC with their records; TEC sends the evaluation to CUNY.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For York that means we translate your transcripts and degrees; the TEC or other evaluation for transfer credit, and any evaluation a graduate program requires, is ordered separately.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
