How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Western New Mexico University says transcripts must be translated into English with a chart converting grades to US letter grades, and evaluated by one of its approved companies: The Evaluation Company (preferred), Educational Perspectives, IACEI or IEEES; high school evaluations must show a US GPA and diploma equivalence, college ones units, grades, GPA, class levels and course descriptions.

WNMU's evaluation agencies, such as Educational Perspectives, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

For TEC and IACEI, which want a translator individually certified by ATA, eVerbary provides one on request.

WNMU requirements in detail

Translation

Transcripts translated into English, with a cross-reference chart to US letter grades (International students).

Who may translate

Not stated by WNMU; each approved company sets its rule (see below).

Evaluation

By an approved company: The Evaluation Company (preferred), Educational Perspectives, International Academic Credential Evaluators or IEEES (International students).

High school

Translated into English and articulated into US GPA format, with a statement that the diploma equals a US high school diploma (International students).

College

Semester units, grade equivalents, overall GPA, class levels and course descriptions; reports without them are not considered for transfer credit (International students).

Timing

All foreign transcripts at the time of admission, unless arranged with the Director of Undergraduate Admission (International students).

What each approved company asks for the translation

Educational Perspectives accepts a translation from a reputable translation agency or a certified professional translator, and also translates in-house.

The Evaluation Company, WNMU's preferred provider, asks for an outside translator certified by the American Translators Association or translates in-house, and IACEI accepts only ATA-certified translators.

For TEC or IACEI, ask eVerbary for a free quote and say which company it is for. IEEES is listed as an AACRAO-recommended company outside NACES; check its rule before ordering.

A detailed report for college credit

WNMU tries to transfer as much foreign credit as possible, and in exchange it wants a highly detailed report: semester units, individual grade equivalents, overall GPA, upper or lower division and professional or vocational levels, and course descriptions (International students).

Send your course descriptions to the company with the transcripts, translated. For high school records the bar is lower: a translation, a US GPA and a statement of diploma equivalence.

Need a certified translation for WNMU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • High school transcripts and diploma
  • College or university transcripts
  • Course descriptions, for transfer credit
  • Grading scale used by each school

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to WNMU

  • The translation goes to the approved company with your transcripts; the company sends its evaluation to WNMU, and all foreign transcripts are due at the time of admission (International students).

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for WNMU, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For WNMU that means we translate your records and course descriptions; we do not convert grades or build the cross-reference chart, which the evaluation company provides.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
