How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Western Kentucky University requires English translations of transcripts, certificates and diplomas from a certified translation service or from the embassy or consulate of the issuing country, and sets out how they must look: verbatim, in the same format, with no interpretation, typed, signed and dated, with the translator's contact details.
Western Kentucky University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. WKU evaluates international records itself, so no outside evaluation is needed unless it asks for one.

Decisions can be made on color scans.
WKU requirements in detail
Translation
Required before Admissions can process a transcript not in English: a literal English translation for undergraduate records, a certified English translation for graduate transcripts (International admission requirements).
Who may translate
A certified translation service or the embassy/consulate of the document's issuing country (International admission requirements).
Standards
Everything translated verbatim; same format as the original; no interpretation or evaluation; typed, signed and dated by the translator; translator's address, phone, fax and email listed (International admission requirements).
Evaluation
WKU's International Admissions Office evaluates all international credentials in-house; it may request a third-party evaluation before deciding (International admission requirements).
Scans, then originals
A decision can be made on color scans; official documents are presented on arrival. Chinese transcripts may come through CHESICC (International admission requirements).
Syllabi (transfers)
An official English translation, or your own translation if it is notarized (International admission requirements).
WKU's six standards for a translation
WKU is one of the few universities that spells out what a translation must look like (international admission requirements).
Every piece of information on the document is translated verbatim; the translation follows the same format as the original; it contains no interpretation or evaluation; it is typed, signed and dated by the translator; and it lists the translator's contact information, including address, phone and fax number, and email.
An eVerbary certified translation is laid out like the original, includes stamps, seals and handwritten notes, never converts grades, and comes with a signed certificate of accuracy on letterhead with our contact details.
If WKU needs a detail that is not on the certificate, such as a fax number, ask us before you submit.
In-house evaluation, scans first, syllabi for transfers
WKU does not send you to an evaluation agency: its International Admissions Office evaluates all international credentials, although it reserves the right to ask for an independent evaluation (International admission requirements).
You can upload color scans for the admission decision and present the official documents when you arrive; scanned documents also go to applyinternational@wku.edu. Every document and the fee must be in before a decision.
Transfer students who want credit can submit course descriptions and syllabi in an official English translation, or translate them themselves and have the translation notarized; un-notarized personal translations are not accepted (International admission requirements).

Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts, certificates and diplomas
- University transcripts, mark sheets and degree certificates
- Course descriptions and syllabi, for transfer credit
- Grading scale printed on the transcript
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to WKU
Upload the scans and the translations through WKU's document upload, or email them to applyinternational@wku.edu; paper documents go to the International Admissions Office, 1906 College Heights Blvd. #11066, Bowling Green, KY 42101-1020 (International admission requirements).
Bring the official documents and the signed translations when you arrive on campus.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For WKU that means we translate your records and syllabi; WKU evaluates them itself, and any third-party evaluation it requests comes from an agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
