How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Western Connecticut State University requires applicants who attended high school or college outside the US to have their documents evaluated by one of its listed agencies or through SpanTran: document-by-document without college coursework, course-by-course with it.
WCSU's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Translate first, then order the evaluation, which we do not provide.

Worth knowing about WCSU
Listed agencies only
Seven agencies or SpanTran.
Report type
Document-by-document, or course-by-course with college work.
Graduate I-20
Issued only with the completed evaluation.
WCSU requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own; the evaluation agency sets it (International undergraduate admissions).
Evaluation (undergraduate)
High school diploma and transcript and any university transcript must be evaluated by a listed agency or SpanTran (International undergraduate admissions).
Agencies
CED, ECE, Josef Silny & Associates, Institute of Foreign Credential Services, WES, Globe Language Services and Global Credential Evaluators (Credit evaluation services).
Report type
Document-by-document if you have no prior college coursework; course-by-course of all courses taken abroad if you do (International undergraduate admissions).
Graduate
A course-by-course evaluation that also shows the degree earned; provisional acceptance first, and the I-20 requires the completed evaluation (graduate).
A closed list of evaluators
WCSU says your documents must be evaluated by one of its listed agencies or through SpanTran if you attended high school or college outside the US (undergraduate).
The list on its credit evaluation services page names the Center for Educational Documentation, Educational Credential Evaluators, Josef Silny & Associates, the Institute of Foreign Credential Services, World Education Services, Globe Language Services and Global Credential Evaluators.
Students with no college coursework may submit a document-by-document evaluation; anyone with university courses abroad needs a course-by-course evaluation of all of them.
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
WES wants a word-for-word translation from a professional translator, not the applicant. ECE accepts any complete, word-for-word translation, including your own, and sells an $85 waiver.
Josef Silny (for translations made in the US), Global Credential Evaluators and SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, accept outside translations only from ATA-certified translators; eVerbary can assign one on request through a free quote, for the languages ATA certifies.
Graduate applicants follow the same list. Their course-by-course evaluation must also show the degree earned, to confirm the equivalent of a US bachelor's degree; qualified applicants are accepted provisionally, and the I-20 is issued only once the completed evaluation is in (graduate).

- High school diploma and transcript
- University transcripts and degree certificates
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to WCSU
The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your documents; the agency sends its evaluation to WCSU admissions (International undergraduate admissions).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For WCSU that means we translate your records for the agency; the document-by-document or course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from a listed agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Western Connecticut State require a certified translation?
It requires an evaluation from a listed agency (International undergraduate admissions); the agency sets the translation rule. WES requires a professional translator (WES).
Which evaluation agencies does WCSU accept?
CED, ECE, Josef Silny, IFCS, WES, Globe Language Services, Global Credential Evaluators, or SpanTran (Credit evaluation services, International undergraduate admissions).
Do I need a course-by-course evaluation?
Only if you have taken university courses abroad; otherwise document-by-document is enough (International undergraduate admissions).
Can I get my I-20 before the evaluation?
Graduate applicants may be accepted provisionally, but the I-20 requires the completed course-by-course evaluation (International graduate admissions).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
