Requirements checked on October 28, 2026 from UTHealth Houston's public pages (sources).

UTHealth Houston publishes no translation rule of its own: its Registrar requires academic transcripts from outside the US to be evaluated by an approved agency and strongly encourages World Education Services or Educational Credential Evaluators; the School of Public Health accepts only WES.

UTHealth Houston's evaluation agencies, WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You translate first and send the translation to the agency; the evaluation comes from the agency, not from us.

Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

UTHealth Houston requirements in detail

Translation

No rule of its own; the agency needs the translation before it can evaluate a record not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the agency: WES requires a professional translator; ECE accepts literal translations (WES, ECE).

Evaluation

Transcripts from institutions outside the US must be evaluated by an approved agency; WES or ECE strongly encouraged (Office of the Registrar: foreign transcript evaluation).

School of Public Health

Only WES evaluations, submitted through SOPHAS, and to the Registrar if admitted (Office of the Registrar: foreign transcript evaluation).

Other agencies

Call the Admissions group of the Office of the Registrar, 713-500-3361, to check whether an agency is approved (Office of the Registrar: foreign transcript evaluation).

Official transcript

A transcript that accompanies a WES or ECE evaluation is accepted as official; ECE Select forwards the evaluation and supporting documents directly (Office of the Registrar: foreign transcript evaluation).

Where it goes

UTHealth Houston Office of the Registrar, PO Box 20036, Houston, TX 77225 (Office of the Registrar: foreign transcript evaluation).

One Registrar rule for seven schools

UTHealth Houston's schools of nursing, medicine, biomedical informatics, behavioral health, dentistry, public health and its graduate school share one rule, published by the Office of the Registrar: transcripts from institutions outside the US must be evaluated by an approved evaluation agency and sent to the Registrar, and applicants are strongly encouraged to use WES or ECE (Registrar).

If you already sent your records to another agency, call Admissions at 713-500-3361 before assuming it counts.

The School of Public Health is narrower: it accepts only WES evaluations, submitted through SOPHAS and, if you are admitted, to the Registrar.

The same page notes that applicants to five MD Anderson School of Health Professions programs need an agency listed by ASCP; see the MD Anderson page for that list.

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

WES asks for an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency; it does not accept translations by applicants, family or friends and does not translate itself.

ECE accepts complete, literal translations in the same format as the original, including your own, or sells an $85 Translation Waiver under which it translates internally for the report without giving you a translation.

ECE Select sends your evaluation and supporting documents directly to UTHealth Houston, and the Registrar treats the transcript that comes with a WES or ECE evaluation as official.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University transcripts and mark sheets
  • Degree certificates (medicine, dentistry, nursing, public health, sciences)
  • Secondary records, if your program asks for them

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to UTHealth Houston

  • Send the translation with your documents to WES or ECE (use ECE Select to forward to UTHealth Houston); evaluations go to the Office of the Registrar, PO Box 20036, Houston, TX 77225. Public Health applicants submit WES through SOPHAS (Office of the Registrar: foreign transcript evaluation).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For UTHealth Houston that means we translate your transcripts and degrees for the agency; the evaluation is ordered by you from WES or ECE, or from WES only for the School of Public Health.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
