How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga reviews foreign credentials in its own Credential Evaluation Services office, and its documentation rules ask that records not issued in English come in the original language with a literal, word-for-word translation that follows the original format, from the issuing institution, a certified translation agency, the Ministry of Education or an embassy.

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. UTC also endorses evaluations from IEE, WES, ECE and TEC, which we do not provide.

Worth knowing about UTC

UTC evaluates itself

Its Credential Evaluation Services converts grades.

Certified agency accepted

Literal, word-for-word, in the original format.

Mailed originals

Emailed copies start the review, not the decision.

UTC requirements in detail

Translation

Original-language documents plus a literal (word-for-word) translation that follows the original format (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

Who may translate

The issuing institution, a certified translation agency, the Ministry of Education or equivalent, or an embassy (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

Evaluation

UTC verifies documents and performs its own course-by-course analysis; it also endorses evaluations from IEE, WES, ECE and TEC, sent directly with official transcripts (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

Delivery

Official documents by mail to Credential Evaluation Services; emailed documents can start the analysis, but a decision may wait for the mailed originals (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

Degree certificate

Original or attested copy listing the degree name and conferral date; documents are not returned (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

Undergraduate

US transcripts go electronically or sealed to Credential Evaluation Services, International Undergraduate Admissions (prospective students).

A literal translation in the original format

UTC's documentation rules for international applicants, published by the Center for Global Education, ask for official documents in the original language and a literal, word-for-word translation that follows the format of the original.

The translation may come from the issuing institution, a certified translation agency, the Ministry of Education or equivalent government body, or an embassy (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

An eVerbary certified translation keeps the layout, stamps and order of the original.

UTC cannot verify documents that have been handled by the applicant or that arrive only by email; emailed copies may start the course-by-course analysis, but the admission decision can wait until the official documents arrive by mail (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

UTC's own evaluation, or an endorsed agency

UTC performs its own course-by-course analysis to convert grades and credits, and also accepts evaluations by IEE, WES, ECE and The Evaluation Company when they come directly from the company together with the official transcripts; UTC keeps its own documentation rules alongside them (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

If you attended an affiliated college but your degree comes from a university, the documents should come from the degree-granting university.

Translate the full high school diploma or degree records, and the degree certificate with its conferral date.

  • Transcripts or mark sheets, every year
  • Degree certificate with degree name and conferral date
  • High school diploma, for undergraduate applicants
  • Bank documents for the I-20, if not in English

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For UTC that means we translate your records; if you choose a third-party evaluation from IEE, WES, ECE or TEC, it comes from that company.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my documents for UTC?

The issuing institution, a certified translation agency, the Ministry of Education or an embassy (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

Does UTC need a credential evaluation from an agency?

Not necessarily: UTC performs its own course-by-course analysis, and endorses IEE, WES, ECE and TEC evaluations (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

Can I email my documents?

UTC may start its analysis from emailed documents, but the decision may wait for the official documents by mail (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

What must the translation look like?

Literal, word-for-word, following the format of the original (Academic documentation requirements for international graduate applicants).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
