The University of La Verne asks international applicants for transcripts translated into English; when the school cannot issue English records, it wants the original-language transcript plus a notarized translation by an accredited translation service, arriving in the agency's sealed envelope, and students already in the US should use a member of the American Translators Association.

University of La Verne accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062), adds notarization for $34.90 per order and can mail the translation in a sealed, signed envelope; the detailed credential evaluation La Verne may require comes from an agency, not from us.

Sample translation: a Brazilian university transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with invented names, school and numbers. The original in Portuguese sits next to our English translation, and the PDF starts with the signed certification page. Bracketed text in the translation is a translator's note: each abbreviation is spelled out the first time it appears, and the layout follows the original line for line, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • CPF, RG, MEC, D.O.U., CH, CR and ENADE are spelled out in brackets the first time they appear, and only then.
  • Status codes (AP, RM, RF, AE) are explained on first use, so a course failed and retaken the next term reads correctly.
  • Grades, decimal commas and dates stay exactly as printed; the date format is noted once. Converting grades is the evaluator's job.
  • Terms, rows and columns follow the original line for line, so each course can be matched at a glance.

Worth knowing about La Verne

Notarized translation

By an accredited translation service.

Agency's sealed envelope

The translation must arrive unopened.

In the US: ATA member

For students already in the country.

La Verne requirements in detail

Translation

Transcripts must be translated into English (International admission requirements); if the school cannot issue English records, the original-language transcript plus a notarized translation (International transcript guidance).

Who may translate

An accredited translation service, or a dedicated office of the school such as the Registrar; not the applicant, a friend, family member or professor. Students already in the US: a member of the American Translators Association (International transcript guidance).

Delivery

Translations must arrive in the translating agency's original sealed envelope; if sent to you, forward it unopened (International transcript guidance).

Official records

Sealed envelope from the central records office; documents from a department or a notary public, and photocopies, are not official (International transcript guidance).

Evaluation

Studies at a foreign university go to a detailed credential evaluation (fee); a NACES member or International Education Evaluators; marks-based systems: course-by-course (International transcript guidance; requirements).

Evaluation waiver

Typically waived if the transcript is official, in English and in credit hours (International transcript guidance).

Diploma

Copies of the official university diploma in English and in the native language (International admission requirements).

A notarized translation in the agency's sealed envelope

La Verne first asks the school itself for an official English version of transcripts and degree verifications.

If that is impossible, you send the official original-language transcript with a notarized translation conducted by an accredited translation service.

The translation counts as official only if it arrives in its original sealed envelope from the translating agency; if the agency sends it to you, you forward that envelope to the admissions office unopened (transcript guidance).

La Verne also names who may not translate: the applicant, a friend or family member, or a professor or other university staff unless the work goes through a dedicated office such as the Registrar.

Students already in the US should obtain the translation from a member of the American Translators Association (International transcript guidance). eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062); notarization is added at checkout for $34.90 per order, and we can mail the translation in a sealed, signed envelope: choose the hard copy at checkout with the admissions office's address ($19.95 Priority or $37.95 Express in the US) and write in the order notes that it is for La Verne.

When La Verne needs a credential evaluation

Applicants who studied at a foreign university send their transcripts for a detailed credential evaluation, for a fee; those at a foreign university accredited by a US agency are exempt.

Evaluations come from a NACES member or International Education Evaluators.

An evaluation may typically be waived when the transcript is official, available in English and measured in credit hours, but the admissions office or department chair can still require one (International transcript guidance).

Degrees from schools using a marks or testing system call for a course-by-course NACES evaluation (International admission requirements).

Three-year Bologna bachelor's degrees are recognized when accompanied by a diploma supplement; other three-year degrees are reviewed by the department, and self-study degrees need a course-by-course evaluation (International transcript guidance).

Translate the diploma supplement too. See translation for credential evaluation.

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to La Verne

  • Transcripts come directly from the issuing school; hand-carried copies are not accepted, and the notarized translation arrives in the translating agency's sealed envelope (requirements; transcript guidance).

  • On request we can also email the translation directly to the admissions office.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For La Verne that means we translate, notarize and mail your records in a sealed envelope; the detailed or course-by-course evaluation comes from a NACES member or IEE.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
