UNCW requirements in detail
Translation (undergraduate)
Official secondary school transcripts translated into English; the translation must be certified. Transfers also send translated post-secondary transcripts (International undergraduate admissions).
Translation (graduate)
Unofficial transcripts may be used for admission if issued in English or translated by a certified academic translating company (Graduate admissions: international applicants).
Who may translate
Graduate School: a certified academic translating company (Graduate admissions: international applicants). Undergraduate: not stated (International undergraduate admissions).
Official transcripts
Must be sent directly by the school administrator or counselor; student-uploaded transcripts are not accepted (International undergraduate admissions).
Evaluation (undergraduate transfer)
After admission and before enrollment, from a NACES member such as SpanTran, to receive credit (International undergraduate admissions).
Evaluation (graduate)
Admitted students request a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member, sent through the agency portal or by mail with a copy of the documents used (Graduate admissions: international applicants).
Deadlines (undergraduate)
Fall April 1, spring October 1; applications reviewed on a rolling basis once complete (International undergraduate admissions).
Undergraduates: certified, and sent by the school
UNCW's international checklists ask first-year applicants for official secondary school transcripts translated into English, with a certified translation, and transfers for the same plus translated transcripts from every post-secondary institution (international undergraduate admissions).
"Official" here means the school administrator or counselor sends the transcripts; UNCW does not accept transcripts uploaded by the student.
The page does not say how the translation reaches UNCW, so confirm with the admissions office before you send it.
Transfers with study abroad have one more step: after admission and before enrolling, an evaluation from a NACES member, UNCW names SpanTran, is needed to receive credit (International undergraduate admissions).
SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, accepts outside translators only if certified by ATA (TEC); eVerbary can provide one on request.
Graduate School: unofficial first, NACES after admission
The Graduate School is explicit about who translates: for admission it accepts unofficial transcripts issued in English or translated by a certified academic translating company (Graduate School).
An internal International Transcript Evaluation Request is completed one business day after you submit the application.
Once admitted, you request a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member; it establishes accreditation, degree, credits and course equivalents and is sent through the agency portal or by mail to the Graduate School with a copy of the documents used.
The Graduate School does not return documents. Applicants sponsored by Fulbright, AMIDEAST, Laspau or USAID have their agency send certified English copies directly (Graduate admissions: international applicants).
Need a certified translation for UNCW?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificate
- University transcripts from every post-secondary institution
- Bachelor's degree certificate, for graduate applicants
- Grading scale printed with the transcript
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UNCW
Graduate applicants upload the translated unofficial transcripts with the online application (Graduate admissions: international applicants).
Undergraduate official transcripts must come from the school administrator or counselor, not from you (International undergraduate admissions). We can also email the translation directly to the admissions office on request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For UNCW that means we translate your transcripts; the NACES course-by-course evaluation, required after admission for graduate students and for transfer credit, comes from the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does UNCW accept a translation from a translation company?
Yes. The Graduate School accepts transcripts translated by a certified academic translating company (Graduate admissions: international applicants), and undergraduate admissions asks for a certified translation (International undergraduate admissions).
Can I upload my own transcript and translation?
Not as the official record for undergraduate admission: official transcripts must be sent by the school administrator or counselor (International undergraduate admissions). Graduate applicants may use unofficial transcripts for admission (Graduate admissions: international applicants).
When do I need a credential evaluation?
After admission: graduate students need a NACES course-by-course evaluation, and undergraduate transfers need one before enrolling to receive credit (Graduate admissions: international applicants, International undergraduate admissions).
Which agency should I use?
Any NACES member; the undergraduate page names SpanTran (International undergraduate admissions).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
