SUNY Potsdam requirements in detail
Translation
Academic records in both English and the original language (International students: admissions).
Who may translate
Potsdam says transcripts can be translated by SpanTran or WES; it does not say only they may (International students: admissions).
Originals
Records count as original only when sent directly from the school, testing agency or bank (International students: admissions).
Which records
Official transcripts, examination scores and secondary mark sheets, plus transcripts from any college attended.
Evaluation
Optional: a NACES credential evaluation can verify that a degree from abroad equals a US bachelor's (International students: admissions).
Deadline note
July 28, 2026 was the last day to use the Common App for fall 2026; after that, the SUNY Application (International students: admissions).
Both versions, and sent by the school
Potsdam asks you to arrange for all official academic records to be sent after you apply: official transcripts, examination scores and secondary school mark sheets, and transcripts from any college or university attended.
Those records "must be submitted in both English and the original language" (International students: admissions). Potsdam adds that transcripts can be translated by SpanTran or WES; it does not say that only they may translate.
Potsdam counts documents as original only when they are sent directly from the school, testing agency or financial institution (International students: admissions).
Ask your school whether it will send the official record together with your English translation, or whether you should send the translation separately with your application.
Degrees from abroad: equivalency, not a required evaluation
For applicants who studied at a university abroad, Potsdam looks for a degree equivalent to a US bachelor's, generally four years of college after twelve years of school, and publishes country notes: an Ordinary or Pass bachelor's from Australia; for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, a BE, BT or master's degree, or an Indian three-year degree in Division or Class I or II from a NAAC A-rated university (International students: admissions).
You may also submit a NACES evaluation to verify equivalency; it is an option, not a requirement.

Uploading the translation to SUNY Potsdam
After applying through the SUNY Application or Common App ($50), have all official records sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, in English and the original language (International students: admissions).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Potsdam that means we translate your transcripts, mark sheets and exam certificates; the official records themselves must come directly from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does SUNY Potsdam require translated transcripts?
Yes. Academic records go in both English and the original language (International students: admissions).
Do I have to use SpanTran or WES to translate?
Potsdam says transcripts can be translated by them; it does not say only they may translate (International students: admissions). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets the English-version requirement.
Can I mail my own transcripts?
Records count as original only when sent directly from the school (International students: admissions).
Is my three-year Indian degree accepted for graduate study?
In Division or Class I or II from a NAAC A-rated university, Potsdam evaluates it as equivalent to a US bachelor's (International students: admissions).
Do I need a credential evaluation?
It is optional: you may submit a NACES evaluation to verify degree equivalency (International students: admissions).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
