How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
SUNY New Paltz asks international first-year applicants for official secondary transcripts in the original language and in a translated English version, and does not say who must translate.
State University of New York at New Paltz accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Transfers also need a NACES course-by-course evaluation of non-US university records, and graduate applicants go through a NACES member for translation and evaluation; the evaluation is something we do not provide.
SUNY New Paltz at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
New Paltz's international undergraduate checklist asks for transcripts "in a translated English version" next to the original (international admission) and does not restrict who translates; a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Not stated for undergraduates.

Where to send
Common App or ApplySUNY; admitted first-year students have official transcripts sent by courier; transfers email or mail official documents to International Admissions.
Deadlines
Fall: May 1. Spring: December 1 (International undergraduate admission).
First-year applicants: two versions of every transcript
New Paltz asks for official high school transcripts and mark sheets, plus local and state board scores if you have them, "in the original language and in a translated English version" (International undergraduate admission).
If your school or ministry does not issue transcripts, you send a certified record of the courses and examinations taken instead, such as GCSE, IGCSE or A Level certificates, and that record needs the same English version.
You can be reviewed on what you upload with the application, but full admission requires official transcripts and test scores: once admitted, you ask your school to send official copies by courier to International Undergraduate Admission at 100 Hawk Drive (International undergraduate admission).
Translate the full transcript, the grading legend and every board certificate so the English version matches the official copy page for page.
Transfers: an evaluation, and sometimes the high school record
If you attended any college, inside or outside the US, you apply as a transfer.
Non-US university transcripts need a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member that lists all coursework, grades and the cumulative GPA; New Paltz names The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran), WES and ECE as the services most often used (International undergraduate admission, catalog).
Each agency sets its own rule for the translation you send it, so check yours before ordering; see translation for credential evaluation.
Transfers with fewer than 45 completed college credits must also send the high school transcript in the original language and a translated English version (International undergraduate admission).
Graduate applicants: NACES for translation and evaluation
The graduate office words its rule differently: students submit translations and credential evaluations of foreign transcripts by a NACES member (graduate international), and the graduate catalog says it accepts translations and evaluations by NACES members such as WES and ECE, and asks for a course-by-course evaluation with GPA and degree equivalency when your checklist requires one (graduate catalog).
In practice your translation travels with your documents to the NACES agency; WES, for example, takes a translation from a professional translation service (WES).
Indian applicants send individual mark sheets, not consolidated reports.

Uploading the translation to SUNY New Paltz
First-year applicants apply through the Common App or ApplySUNY ($50 fee) and upload the transcripts with their English versions; after admission the school sends official copies by courier (International undergraduate admission).
Transfers email or mail official documents to International Admissions, and the NACES agency sends its evaluation (International undergraduate admission).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For New Paltz that means we translate your transcripts and certificates; the NACES course-by-course evaluation for transfers and graduate applicants is ordered by you from the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does SUNY New Paltz need my high school transcript translated?
Yes. It asks for official transcripts in the original language and in a translated English version (International undergraduate admission).
Who can translate my transcripts for New Paltz?
The undergraduate rule does not say (International undergraduate admission). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
I am transferring with 30 credits from abroad. What do I send?
A NACES course-by-course evaluation of your university records, and, because you have fewer than 45 credits, your high school transcript with its English version (International undergraduate admission).
Which evaluation agency should I use?
Any NACES member; New Paltz says TEC, WES and ECE are the most common, and the report must be course-by-course with cumulative GPA (Undergraduate catalog: admission).
How does it work for graduate programs?
You submit translations and evaluations through a NACES member, with a course-by-course report when your checklist asks for one (International graduate admissions, catalog).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
