How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
SUNY Maritime College asks international applicants to submit academic credentials in the original language with an exactly worded and certified translation if they are not in English, and it does not say who must translate.
SUNY Maritime College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
All foreign transcripts must also be evaluated by WES or another NACES-approved service, for freshmen, transfers and graduate students; that evaluation is something we do not provide.

SUNY Maritime requirements in detail
Translation
Credentials in the original language, with an exactly worded and certified translation if not in English (International admissions).
Who may translate
Not stated (International admissions).
Official documents
Each credential must carry an official seal, stamp or signature of a school or government official (International admissions).
Evaluation
All foreign academic transcripts evaluated by WES or a NACES-approved service; freshmen may be asked for further evaluation after review (International admissions).
Transfers
Official transcripts of all college work, whether or not you want credit; overseas transcripts evaluated by WES or NACES and translated (International admissions).
Graduate
Same evaluation and translation rule, plus an essay, resume and English test; Shipping and Logistics asks for two recommendations (International admissions).
Deadlines
International priority: fall April 1, spring November 1, reviewed on a rolling basis (International admissions).
An exactly worded translation, then a WES or NACES report
Maritime's freshman rule is unusually precise about form: every academic credential must carry an official seal, stamp or signature of a school or government official and be submitted in its original language, and if it is not in English it must be accompanied by an exactly worded and certified translation (International admissions).
That means a complete, literal translation of every stamp and note, not a summary of the grades.
On top of the translation, all foreign academic transcripts must be evaluated by WES or another NACES-approved service.
WES accepts a translation by a professional translation service, uploaded with your WES application, and does not accept translations by applicants (WES), so one certified translation can serve both Maritime and the evaluator.
Transfers and graduate applicants
International transfers send official transcripts of all college work, even courses they do not expect credit for, and anything from a college overseas must be evaluated by WES or a NACES service and translated into English (International admissions).
Engineering applicants need a C or better in college-level calculus; the transfer admissions page lists June 1 for fall and December 1 for spring (transfer admissions).
Graduate applicants follow the same evaluation and translation rule and add an essay on career plans, a one-page resume and TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores no more than two years old (International admissions).
Materials go by mail to the Office of Admissions, 6 Pennyfield Avenue, Throggs Neck, NY 10465.

- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to SUNY Maritime
Send the original-language credentials and their certified translations to the Office of Admissions with your SUNY, Common App or graduate application (International admissions). We can also email the translation directly to the admissions office on request.
For the WES or NACES evaluation, the translation goes to the agency with your records, and the agency sends its report to Maritime.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For SUNY Maritime that means we translate your credentials; the WES or NACES evaluation of your foreign transcripts is ordered separately.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
