How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Purchase College requires every foreign transcript to be evaluated by a credential evaluator before admission: a course-by-course report from TEC, WES, ECE or any NACES member, and for transfer credit a TEC Divisional Course Analysis.

Purchase College's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, so you translate first and the agency evaluates.

For transfers using TEC, Purchase College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary when the translator is individually certified by ATA, which eVerbary provides on request.

Purchase College requirements in detail

Translation

Purchase publishes no translation rule of its own; the evaluation agency sets it.

Evaluation

All foreign transcripts, by an educational credential evaluator; course-by-course with all coursework and grades, paid by you (International students).

Which agency

Transfers: a TEC Divisional Course Analysis to receive credit. Everyone else: a course-by-course analysis from TEC (discounted application), WES, ECE or any NACES member (International students).

Credit policy

College credit from outside the US must be evaluated by a NACES member translation/evaluation service; WES and TEC highly recommended (transfer credit).

Official copies

Evaluations and US transcripts go directly to Admissions; transcripts sent by students are unofficial (International students).

Where to send

admissions@purchase.edu or International Admissions, 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase, NY 10577.

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

WES requires an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator or translation service, uploaded in your WES account; it does not accept translations made by applicants and does not translate (WES).

ECE accepts a complete, literal translation from anyone, including you, and sells an $85 translation waiver under which it translates for the evaluation itself (ECE).

TEC, the agency Purchase names first and requires for transfer credit, accepts an outside translation only from a translator individually certified by ATA, or sells its own certified translation (TEC, TEC translation). If you choose TEC, ask eVerbary for a free quote and say it is for TEC.

Transfers: one agency for credit

The admissions page is specific: transfer applicants must submit a TEC (formerly SpanTran) Divisional Course Analysis to receive credit for prior college work; all other applicants submit a course-by-course analysis (International students).

The Provost's transfer credit policy is broader, saying a NACES member translation/evaluation service must evaluate credit from outside the US and recommending WES and TEC (transfer credit).

We have not resolved the difference; if you want credit, the admissions page points to TEC, and you can confirm with the International Admissions advisor before ordering.

The order of steps

After you apply, Purchase emails you portal access and asks for the International Supplemental Form, which customizes your checklist (International students).

Translate your transcripts first, then order the evaluation and ask the agency to send it directly to Purchase; a copy you upload yourself counts as unofficial.

Need a certified translation for Purchase College?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts and diploma
  • University transcripts, for the course-by-course or divisional analysis
  • Degree certificates, for graduate applicants
  • Grading scale or legend of each transcript

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Purchase College

  • For foreign records, the translation goes to the evaluation agency with your documents, not to Purchase. The agency sends its evaluation directly to Admissions at admissions@purchase.edu or by mail (International students).

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Purchase College, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Purchase that means we translate your records for the agency; the TEC, WES, ECE or NACES evaluation is ordered and paid by you after the translation, and the agency sends it to Purchase.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Purchase College require a certified translation?

Purchase itself publishes no translation rule; it requires an evaluation of every foreign transcript (International students), and the agency asks for the translation.

Which evaluation do I need as a transfer student?

A TEC Divisional Course Analysis to receive credit for prior college coursework (International students).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for Purchase College?

Yes, for TEC: ask for a free quote and say it is for TEC. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English, and no other languages (TEC rule).

Can I use WES or ECE instead of TEC?

Yes, if you are not a transfer: Purchase accepts WES, ECE and any NACES member for the course-by-course analysis (International students).

Can I send the evaluation myself?

No. Evaluations must be sent to the admissions office directly; copies from students are unofficial (International students).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
