SUNY Geneseo requirements in detail

Translation (first-year)

Secondary transcripts in English or with an official English translation, plus official external examination results where your system has them (How to apply as an international student).

Who may translate

Not stated for first-year applicants.

Transfers

University transcripts in another language must be translated into English by a NACES member; course descriptions or syllabi in English are usually needed for credit (How to apply as an international student).

Under two semesters

Transfers with fewer than two full-time semesters also send secondary transcripts (How to apply as an international student).

Copies or originals

Emailed documents can usually be used for the decision; official documents by mail are needed to enroll (How to apply as an international student).

Application

Common App or SUNY Application; the international fee is waived with the code INTLFREE.

First-year applicants: transcripts and exam results

Geneseo asks for transcripts from every secondary school you attended, in English or "accompanied by an official English translation" (How to apply as an international student).

It also wants official external examination results where your country uses them, giving Standard X and XII, IGCSE and WASSCE as examples, and a final transcript as proof of graduation once you finish. Translate the exam certificates as well as the transcript.

You can email documents to admissions@geneseo.edu, and in most cases those can be used for the admission decision; to enroll, the official documents must follow by mail, and Geneseo encourages a tracked courier such as UPS, FedEx or DHL (How to apply as an international student).

Transfers: a different rule for university transcripts

If you are a current college or university student, Geneseo wants official transcripts up to your latest completed semester, and transcripts issued in another language "must be translated into English by a NACES member" (How to apply as an international student).

NACES is an association of credential evaluation agencies; eVerbary is not a member, so for university records you would order the translation through the NACES agency.

English course descriptions or syllabi are usually needed for credit review as well.

If you have completed fewer than two semesters of full-time university study, you also send your secondary transcripts, and those follow the first-year rule (How to apply as an international student).

  • Apply through the Common App or SUNY Application, then email documents and their translations to admissions@geneseo.edu or send them by courier; official documents by mail are needed before you enroll (How to apply as an international student).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Geneseo that means we translate your secondary transcripts and exam results; for university transcripts of transfer applicants, Geneseo asks for a translation by a NACES member, which we are not.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does SUNY Geneseo require a translation of my high school transcript?

Yes, if it is not in English: an official English translation (How to apply as an international student).

Who can translate my high school records?

Geneseo does not say for first-year applicants (How to apply as an international student). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Can eVerbary translate my university transcript for a transfer application?

Geneseo asks that university transcripts in another language be translated by a NACES member (How to apply as an international student). eVerbary is not a NACES member, so ask the agency.

Do I need to translate exam certificates?

Geneseo asks for official external exam results such as IGCSE or WASSCE, so translate them if they are not in English (How to apply as an international student).

Can I email my documents?

Yes, for the decision in most cases; official documents must be mailed before you enroll (How to apply as an international student).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
