SUNY ESF requirements in detail

Translation

Complete translations into English of all transcripts the application requires, with no additions or deletions by the translator (International students: application requirements).

Who may translate

Anyone but the applicant: translations by the applicant are not accepted (International students: application requirements).

Evaluation (freshmen)

Academic credentials translated into English, with an evaluation by an approved international credentials evaluation agency showing a college preparatory secondary program (International students: application requirements).

Evaluation (transfers)

A detailed course-by-course evaluation of all international credentials, by an approved agency (International students: application requirements).

Where to find services

ESF points to the NACES website for evaluators and translation services.

Tracking

After applying, ESF sets up an Applicant Portal to track documents.

A complete translation, and not your own

ESF's rule has two parts.

Translations into English of every transcript the application asks for must be complete, "without any additions or deletions by the translators", and translations of documents by the applicant are not accepted (International students: application requirements).

In practice that means every page, stamp, seal and note on the transcript appears in the translation, and you need a translator other than yourself.

ESF mentions the NACES website as a place to find evaluators and translation services; it does not require the translation to come from one.

An evaluation at both levels

Unlike many SUNY campuses, ESF asks first-year applicants for an evaluation as well: freshmen show they completed a college preparatory secondary program with credentials translated into English and evaluated by an approved international credentials evaluation agency.

Transfers need a detailed course-by-course evaluation of all international credentials (International students: application requirements).

Send your translation to the agency with your documents; WES, for example, accepts one from a professional translation service (WES).

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For ESF that means we translate your transcripts and certificates; the evaluation from an approved agency is ordered by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I translate my own transcripts for SUNY ESF?

No. ESF does not accept translations of documents by the applicant (International students: application requirements).

What does ESF mean by a complete translation?

A translation of everything on the transcript, without additions or deletions by the translator (International students: application requirements).

Do freshmen need a credential evaluation?

Yes. Freshmen submit credentials translated into English and evaluated by an approved agency (International students: application requirements).

What evaluation do transfers need?

A detailed course-by-course evaluation of all international credentials (International students: application requirements).
