SUNY Canton asks international applicants for high school and college transcripts translated to English if they are not already, and strongly encourages, without requiring, SpanTran: The Evaluation Company.

SUNY Canton accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Canton reads the records for a 2.0 cumulative GPA on the US scale; an evaluation, if you choose one, is something we do not provide.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Canton's international requirements say transcripts must be translated to English and only encourage TEC (requirements); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Policy checked on October 26, 2026.

SUNY Canton requirements in detail

Translation

High school and college transcripts from all schools attended, translated to English if not already (International admissions requirements).

Who may translate

Not restricted; Canton strongly encourages SpanTran: The Evaluation Company (International admissions requirements).

Admission standard

A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher on the US scale, for freshmen and transfers (International admissions requirements).

Other documents

In-person students add the International Student Financial form with supporting documents and a color copy of the passport biography page.

A translation, with TEC as a suggestion

Canton keeps its rule short: the high school transcript and the transcripts from every college attended "must be translated to English, if they are not already", and students are strongly encouraged to use SpanTran: The Evaluation Company (International admissions requirements).

The encouragement is not a requirement.

If you do go through TEC for an evaluation, TEC accepts outside translations only from translators individually certified by ATA (TEC); eVerbary can arrange one on request through a free quote.

Canton reads the translated records against a 2.0 cumulative GPA on the US grade scale, for first-time freshmen and transfers alike (International admissions requirements), so translate the grading legend with each transcript.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Canton that means we translate your transcripts and certificates; an evaluation from TEC or another agency, if you order one, comes from the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does SUNY Canton require a translation?

Yes, transcripts not in English must be translated to English (International admissions requirements).

Do I have to use TEC?

No. Canton strongly encourages SpanTran: The Evaluation Company but does not require it (International admissions requirements).

What GPA does Canton look for?

A cumulative 2.0 or higher on the US scale (International admissions requirements).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
