How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
SUNY Suffolk asks F-1 applicants to send any document not in English with a full English translation, in which the translator certifies that it is complete and accurate and that he or she is competent to translate; it does not say who must translate.
Suffolk County Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Every F-1 applicant also needs a credential evaluation from a NACES or AICE member, and residents need one for credit from foreign colleges; that evaluation is something we do not provide.
SUNY Suffolk at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
SUNY Suffolk's F-1 requirements ask for a full English translation with the original, certified by the translator as complete and accurate (application requirements), without restricting who translates; a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary includes exactly that statement. SUNY Suffolk requirements in detail
Translation (F-1)
Any document in another language goes with a full English translation and the original; the translator certifies completeness, accuracy and competence (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
Who may translate
Not stated.
Evaluation (F-1)
Required: a NACES or AICE member shows your secondary school equals a US high school diploma; course-by-course if you want transfer credit (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
Evaluation delivery
The original evaluation goes to the International Student Office in a sealed envelope (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
Residents and other visas
Transcripts must be translated if not in English, and foreign credentials evaluated by a NACES or AICE agency (transfer page).
Deadlines (F-1)
Fall: second Friday in June from abroad, third Friday in July inside the US. Spring: second Friday in November or December (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
What the translator has to certify for SUNY Suffolk
Suffolk's F-1 packet must be submitted as one package, and every document must be original and in English unless the list says a copy is fine.
A document in another language travels with a full English translation, and Suffolk spells out what that translation must say: the translator certifies that it is complete and accurate and that he or she is competent to translate from that language into English (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
That is the content of the signed certification on an eVerbary translation. "Full" means every page, stamp and note in the margin, so send us the whole document, including the back of the high school diploma and the grading legend.
The evaluation every F-1 applicant needs
Suffolk does not evaluate foreign records itself.
Each F-1 applicant must prove that secondary school at home equals a US high school diploma through an agency that belongs to NACES or AICE, and applicants with college study who want credit need a course-by-course report.
The original report goes to the International Student Office in a sealed envelope (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
Suffolk adds that the agency you choose will state its own documentation and English translation requirements on its website (F-1 application requirements and timeline), and its timeline places the evaluation six to nine months before the deadline.
In practice you translate once, early: the same certified translation goes to the agency and into your Suffolk packet. See translation for credential evaluation.
Residents, refugees and other visa holders
Applicants who are not on an F-1 visa apply through regular admissions.
For courses taken at a foreign college, Suffolk awards credit only when the school is equivalent to a regionally accredited US institution, and an official course-by-course evaluation, which includes a document-to-document evaluation, must be mailed directly from a NACES or AICE member to the college in Selden.
The same page says transcripts must be translated if they are not in English (transfer page).

Uploading the translation to SUNY Suffolk
F-1 applicants mail the complete packet (application, I-20 form, sponsorship forms, the evaluation in its sealed envelope and the originals with their translations) to the International Student Office; questions go to international@sunysuffolk.edu (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
Other applicants have the evaluator mail its course-by-course report directly to the college (Transfer students).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For SUNY Suffolk that means we translate your records and financial documents; the NACES or AICE evaluation is ordered by you from the agency, which mails it to Suffolk.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
What does SUNY Suffolk require for documents not in English?
A full English translation sent with the original, in which the translator certifies it is complete and accurate (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
Can a professional translation service translate my diploma for Suffolk?
Yes. Suffolk does not restrict who translates; it asks for the translator's certification (F-1 application requirements and timeline), which an eVerbary certified translation includes.
Do I need a credential evaluation for Suffolk?
Yes, as an F-1 applicant: from a NACES or AICE member, showing high school equivalency, original in a sealed envelope (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
I live in Suffolk County with a foreign college transcript. How do I get credit?
Have a NACES or AICE member mail a course-by-course evaluation directly to the college; transcripts not in English must be translated (Transfer students).
When should I start?
Suffolk suggests requesting your records and the evaluation six to nine months before the deadline; the fall deadline from abroad is the second Friday in June (F-1 application requirements and timeline).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
