Requirements checked on October 27, 2026 from St. Joseph's's public pages (sources).

St. Joseph's University, New York asks international applicants for official transcripts, and its Brooklyn campus page says a certified translation may be required when the original is not in English, without saying who must make it.

St. Joseph's University, New York accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Its Long Island page words the same step as a possible third-party evaluation (WES or Globe Language Services are its examples), and that evaluation is something we do not produce.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

The Brooklyn campus says that if the original transcript is not in English "a certified translation may be required" (Brooklyn: how to apply), and it does not restrict who translates; a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Policy checked on October 27, 2026.

Sample translation: a Brazilian university transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with invented names, school and numbers. The original in Portuguese sits next to our English translation, and the PDF starts with the signed certification page. Bracketed text in the translation is a translator's note: each abbreviation is spelled out the first time it appears, and the layout follows the original line for line, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • CPF, RG, MEC, D.O.U., CH, CR and ENADE are spelled out in brackets the first time they appear, and only then.
  • Status codes (AP, RM, RF, AE) are explained on first use, so a course failed and retaken the next term reads correctly.
  • Grades, decimal commas and dates stay exactly as printed; the date format is noted once. Converting grades is the evaluator's job.
  • Terms, rows and columns follow the original line for line, so each course can be matched at a glance.

Worth knowing about St. Joseph's

Two campuses

Brooklyn and Long Island word the rule differently.

June 1

Fall deadline from abroad; I-20s until July 15.

Course by course

For university-level work, by a third-party evaluator.

St. Joseph's requirements in detail

Translation (Brooklyn)

A certified translation may be required if the original transcript is not in English (How to apply as an international student: Brooklyn).

Evaluation (Long Island)

A certified third-party evaluation may be required instead; WES or Globe Language Services are the examples (How to apply as an international student: Long Island).

University-level work

Applicants with university courses should have a translated, course-by-course evaluation from a third-party evaluator (How to apply as an international student: Long Island).

Suggested evaluators

ECE, WES, Globe Language Services, AACRAO, Academic Evaluation Services, A2Z and others; no affiliation or preference (PDF list).

What to send

Freshmen: secondary school transcripts. Transfer and graduate: transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (How to apply as an international student: Brooklyn).

Deadlines (from abroad)

Fall: June 1, I-20s until July 15. Spring: October 15, I-20s until November 15. I-20 transfers: rolling (How to apply as an international student: Brooklyn).

English

TOEFL iBT 4.5, IELTS 6.5 or Duolingo 115; first-year applicants may use SAT 980 or ACT 19 instead (How to apply as an international student: Brooklyn).

Where the Brooklyn and Long Island pages differ

St. Joseph's publishes the same application steps for both campuses with one sentence changed. The Brooklyn page says that if the original transcript is not in English a certified translation may be required.

The Long Island page says that in the same case a certified third-party evaluation may be required, gives World Education Services and Globe Language Services as examples, and adds that the Office of Admissions may request an evaluation to complete its review.

Both pages say "may", so neither step is automatic. Applying with the original transcript and a certified English translation covers the Brooklyn wording and is also what an evaluation agency needs before it can evaluate a document that is not in English.

University courses: a translated, course-by-course evaluation

Transfer and graduate applicants send transcripts from every college or university attended.

Long Island adds that anyone who completed university-level courses should have a translated, course-by-course evaluation done by a third-party evaluator (How to apply as an international student: Long Island).

St. Joseph's suggested list includes ECE, WES, Globe Language Services, AACRAO's foreign credential service and several smaller agencies, and says the university has no affiliation with or preference among them (evaluator list).

Evaluators set their own translation rules. WES, for example, wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations made by applicants, so a certified eVerbary translation can go to the agency with your records.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For St. Joseph's that means we translate your transcripts and documents; a third-party evaluation, if Admissions asks for one, comes from an evaluation agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does St. Joseph's require a certified translation?

It may. The Brooklyn page says a certified translation may be required when the original transcript is not in English (How to apply as an international student: Brooklyn).

Do I need a credential evaluation?

It may be requested; the Long Island page says a certified third-party evaluation may be required, and university-level coursework should have a course-by-course evaluation (How to apply as an international student: Long Island).

Which evaluation agency should I use?

St. Joseph's lists ECE, WES, Globe Language Services, AACRAO and others and has no preference (3rd-party credential evaluator's list (PDF)).

When should I apply from outside the US?

By June 1 for fall and October 15 for spring, so the I-20 can be issued in time (How to apply as an international student: Brooklyn).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
