Brooklyn College's Transfer Evaluations Office requires non-English transcripts to be professionally translated and evaluated, and asks for course descriptions translated by a professional translator or authorized service.

Brooklyn College (CUNY) accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Graduate applicants educated abroad need a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member, and undergraduate admission runs through CUNY's central office; the evaluations are something we do not provide.

Brooklyn College requirements in detail

Translation (transfer credit)

Non-English transcripts must be professionally translated and evaluated; course descriptions not in English are sent with translations and originals (Transferring credit from international institutions).

Who may translate

A professional translator or authorized service; the office calls online tools acceptable but less precise (Transferring credit from international institutions).

Evaluation (transfer credit)

An official course-by-course report from a CUNY-approved agency, with US credit values, certified copies and English translations (Transferring credit from international institutions).

Credit limit

Up to 60 credits from institutions recognized by CUNY's processing center, with a US grade equivalent of C- or higher; undergraduates only (Transferring credit from international institutions).

Graduate evaluation

Course-by-course from a NACES member, showing degree type, US equivalency, graduation date and cumulative GPA (Graduate admissions: supporting documents).

Graduate transcripts

Unofficial uploads for review; official transcripts after admission, sent by the school or hand-delivered sealed (FAQ, Graduate admissions: supporting documents).

Undergraduate admission

Through CUNY's central application and its translation guidelines.

Transfer credit in two steps

Brooklyn College grants transfer credit from abroad only to matriculated undergraduates, and the Transfer Evaluations Office runs it in two steps (Transferring credit from international institutions).

First, the course description evaluation: your foreign courses appear in CUNYfirst with a pending code, and you email descriptions or syllabi for every course, originals plus translations, with the subject line "Course Descriptions".

For those translations the office asks for a professional translator or authorized service and warns that online tools are less precise.

Second, an official course-by-course report from an approved third-party agency, showing the US credit value of each course, with certified copies of all documents and English translations, emailed with the subject "Course-by-Course Evaluation".

Academic departments then decide equivalencies; credit is capped at 60 and needs a C- or better (Transferring credit from international institutions).

Translate the transcript and the course descriptions together so both steps use the same course names.

Graduate applicants: a NACES report

For graduate study, Brooklyn College wants international transcripts evaluated by a NACES member; the course-by-course report must show the type of degree, its US equivalency, the graduation date and a cumulative GPA, and the office asks you to allow plenty of time, especially if you need a student visa (Graduate admissions: supporting documents).

Applications can be reviewed with unofficial transcripts, but you must submit officials to register (Graduate admissions FAQ).

The agency sets the translation rule for that report. WES, a NACES member, accepts a translation by a professional translation service, not one by the applicant (WES). Undergraduate admission follows CUNY's rules, explained on the CUNY page.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University transcripts and degree certificates
  • Course descriptions or syllabi, for transfer credit
  • Secondary school records, for CUNY undergraduate admission
  • Grading scale or legend

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Brooklyn College

  • Course descriptions with their translations are emailed to the Transfer Evaluations Office with the subject "Course Descriptions"; the agency's official report goes with the subject "Course-by-Course Evaluation" (Transferring credit from international institutions).

  • For the graduate NACES report, the translation goes to the agency with your transcripts.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Brooklyn College that means we translate your transcripts and course descriptions; the course-by-course report, for credit or for graduate admission, comes from an evaluation agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
