Requirements checked on October 28, 2026 from Southern's public pages (sources).

Southern Adventist University asks international undergraduates to send official transcripts with certified English translations ("not an interpretation") of any in another language, and to have high school and university records evaluated by a foreign credit evaluation service before it decides on admission.

Southern Adventist University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

The evaluation comes from the agency (SpanTran is recommended; ECE, IEE and WES are also accepted), and each agency has its own translation rule; graduate applicants use TEC, ECE or WES.

Southern at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Southern's international admission page asks for certified English translations to accompany transcripts in other languages and does not restrict who makes them (international admissions); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

Worth knowing about Southern

Southern requirements in detail

Translation

Certified English translations, not an interpretation, must accompany original transcripts in other languages (International students: future students).

Who may translate

Not stated by Southern (International students: future students); the evaluation agency may set its own rule.

Evaluation (undergraduate)

All non-US high school and university records go through a foreign credit evaluation service before admission; SpanTran recommended, ECE, IEE and WES also accepted (Spanish page). Bermuda and the Bahamas are exempt.

Evaluation (graduate)

TEC, ECE or WES, sent by the agency directly to Graduate Studies; reports are advisory (Graduate international requirements).

Where it goes

Official transcripts to Enrollment Services (International students: future students).

Fall deadlines

June 1 acceptance, June 22 declaration of finances, June 24 international deposit ($3,000), July 6 last day to receive the I-20 (International students: future students).

Winter deadlines

October 5, November 11, November 18 and November 30 (International students: future students).

A translation and an evaluation, both before admission

Southern does not admit international undergraduates on the transcript alone.

Anyone who attended a non-US secondary school or university must have the documents submitted through a foreign credit evaluation service before the admission decision, and the official transcripts sent to Enrollment Services must come with certified English translations of anything in another language; the page specifies a translation, not an interpretation (international admissions). Records from Bermuda and the Bahamas skip the evaluation.

Southern recommends SpanTran as the cheapest option and quotes about $140 for a high school evaluation without translation: $90 for the initial report and $50 to update it after graduation, which you request by emailing SpanTran with your case number.

The Spanish version of the page also lists ECE, IEE and WES as accepted (Spanish page). Graduate Studies uses a different list, TEC, ECE or WES, and treats every report as advisory (graduate requirements).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

The agency you pick decides who may translate for its report.

The Evaluation Company (TEC, formerly SpanTran) accepts an outside translation only from a translator certified by ATA, or translates in-house for a fee; if you choose SpanTran, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA on request: ask for a free quote and mention SpanTran and Southern.

WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept your own. ECE accepts complete, literal translations, even your own, or sells an $85 waiver to translate internally. IEE accepts certified translators but not the applicant or a notary.

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Southern, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Southern that means we translate your transcripts and diplomas; the foreign credit evaluation required before admission is ordered from SpanTran, ECE, IEE or WES.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of translation does Southern accept?

A certified English translation, not an interpretation; Southern does not say who must make it (International students: future students).

Do I need an evaluation even with a translation?

Yes. Non-US high school and university records go through an evaluation service before the admission decision (International students: future students).

Which evaluation agencies does Southern accept?

SpanTran is recommended; ECE, IEE and WES are also accepted for undergraduates (Admisiones de estudiantes internacionales). Graduate Studies lists TEC, ECE and WES (Graduate international requirements).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for SpanTran?

Yes. TEC (SpanTran) requires outside translators certified by ATA (TEC); ask for a free quote, mention SpanTran and Southern, and we assign one. ATA certifies only some languages into English.

When is the deadline for fall?

Acceptance by June 1, with the I-20 received by July 6 (International students: future students).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
