STC requirements in detail

Translation

Complete official transcripts from the highest level of education (high school, or every college attended), in English or translated to English (International students).

Who may translate

Evaluation

Required, by one of the approved international credential evaluators (International students).

Agency list

ACEI, Atlas, Evaluation Service, GEO Credential Services, International Education Equivalency Evaluation Services, IEE, The Evaluation Company and Transcript Research; another agency is reviewed case by case and the student assumes the risk (Approved international credentials evaluators).

Where it goes

Admissions and Records, International Student Advisor, P.O. Box 9701, McAllen, TX 78502, by mail or as scanned email attachments (International students).

Other documents

A signed, notarized Affidavit of Support, a bank financial statement and a valid passport; the I-20 is prepared once everything is in (International students).

Transfer credit

Credits from colleges outside the US that lack US regional accreditation can be evaluated by an AACRAO-approved service (catalog).

Translation first, then the agency on STC's list

STC asks for two things for the same transcript: an English version and an evaluation by an approved agency (International students).

If you finished high school abroad, that is your high school record; if you studied at a college or university, the transcripts from every one you attended.

Order the translation first and send it to the agency with the original-language records, because the agency evaluates from both.

The agencies on the list set their own translation rules. IEE wants a certified translator and does not accept translations by the client or a notary public.

The Evaluation Company asks that an outside translator be certified by the American Translators Association, and ACEI asks for ATA-certified translators for translations made in the US.

If you use one of those two, ask eVerbary for a free quote and say the translation is for that agency: we can assign a translator individually certified by ATA for the languages ATA certifies.

A courtesy list, not a closed one

STC says its eight agencies are offered as a courtesy and are not an exhaustive list.

If you choose another agency, the Office of Admissions and Records reviews it case by case and you assume the risk (Approved international credentials evaluators).

Three of the listed agencies are in Texas: GEO Credential Services in San Antonio, The Evaluation Company in Houston and Transcript Research in Dallas.

Foreign college credit is handled under the catalog's transfer rules: courses from colleges outside the US that are not accredited by a US regional association can be evaluated by an AACRAO-approved service, and STC keeps the list of services online and at the Enrollment Center (Catalog: academic information, transfer of credit).

Need a certified translation for STC?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • High school transcript and diploma, if that is your highest level of education
  • College or university transcripts, from every institution attended
  • Degree certificates
  • Bank financial statement, if it is not in English

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to STC

  • Send the official transcripts and their English translation to the evaluation agency, and the agency's report plus the rest of your documents to the Admissions Office, by mail to P.O. Box 9701, McAllen, TX 78502, or as scanned email attachments (International students).

  • We deliver the certified translation as a PDF you can attach to that email, and we can send it directly to the admissions office by email on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For STC that means we translate your transcripts; the evaluation is ordered by you from one of the agencies STC lists, or another that Admissions accepts.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does South Texas College accept a translation from eVerbary?

STC asks for transcripts in English or translated to English and does not say who must translate (International students). A certified translation from a professional service qualifies.

Do I need both a translation and an evaluation?

Yes. The transcript from your highest level of education must be in English or translated, and evaluated by an approved agency (International students).

Which evaluation agencies does STC accept?

It lists eight, including IEE, The Evaluation Company and Transcript Research, and reviews other agencies case by case (Approved international credentials evaluators).

Can I email my documents?

Yes. STC takes documents by mail or as scanned email attachments (International students).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for The Evaluation Company or ACEI?

Yes, on request through a free quote: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian at $34.95 per page, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian at $44.95 per page. ATA certifies no other languages into English.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
