Sarah Lawrence College asks international applicants to have their transcripts translated to English and to provide the original-language document as well, and it does not say who must translate.

Sarah Lawrence College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Essays and recommendations must be written in English rather than translated, no outside credential evaluation is named, and transfer credit is decided by the registrar, so what we provide is the transcript translation.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Sarah Lawrence requirements in detail

Translation

Transcripts must be translated to English, and the original-language document must also be provided (International applicants: how to apply).

Who may translate

Essays and recommendations

Must be written in English; two letters from academic teachers (International applicants: how to apply).

Evaluation

None named; the admission office reads the transcripts, and the registrar determines transfer credit.

Where to apply

The Common Application (International applicants: how to apply).

Transfer deadlines

March 1 for fall, November 1 for spring; later applications on a space-available basis (transfer).

Transfer credit

Liberal arts courses from accredited US colleges or foreign schools of comparable accreditation; decided by the registrar (Transfer applicants).

What is translated and what is written in English

Sarah Lawrence separates two kinds of documents. Transcripts are translated: they must be translated to English and sent with the original-language document (international applicants).

Essays and recommendations are different: they must be written in English, so a teacher's letter in another language is not the path the college describes; ask your teachers to write in English.

Applicants who have not studied in an English curriculum for the past four years take the TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo test, and may ask for an extension when time or distance is a hardship (International applicants: how to apply).

Transfers and their credits from abroad

Transfer applicants send a final high school transcript, transcripts of all college work through the most recent term, a College Official's Report and a faculty evaluation (transfer applicants).

The admission office uses the college transcripts to judge your candidacy, while the registrar determines credit and class standing, usually after you arrive; for a preliminary review you can write to the Director of Transfer Admission.

Courses must be liberal arts courses from a college accredited by a US regional body or a foreign school of comparable accreditation, and business, engineering and other pre-professional courses do not transfer (Transfer applicants).

Translate the course titles and descriptions accurately, since that is what the registrar reads to decide whether a course counts as liberal arts.

Uploading the translation to Sarah Lawrence

  • Apply through the Common Application and send each transcript with its English translation and the original-language document (International applicants: how to apply). Transfer applicants send the College Official's Report by mail or email to the Office of Admission (Transfer applicants).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Sarah Lawrence that means we translate your transcripts; we do not write or translate essays and recommendations, which the college wants written in English, and we do not decide transfer credit.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sarah Lawrence require a certified translation?

It asks for transcripts translated to English, with the original, and does not say who must translate (International applicants: how to apply). A certified translation from a professional service meets that.

Can my recommendation letter be translated?

Sarah Lawrence says recommendations must be written in English (International applicants: how to apply).

Do I need a WES evaluation?

Sarah Lawrence names no credential evaluation for international applicants; it reads your translated transcripts, and the registrar decides transfer credit.

When are transfer applications due?

March 1 for fall and November 1 for spring (Transfer applicants).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
