How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Raritan Valley Community College requires F-1 applicants to submit a general evaluation of their high school record from a NACES member for admission and the I-20, and a course-by-course NACES evaluation for credit from a university abroad.
RVCC's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Translate first, then order the evaluation; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

Worth knowing about RVCC
General evaluation
Of your high school record, for the I-20.
Course-by-course
Only if you want college credit.
One PDF by email
The F-1 application goes in a single file.
RVCC requirements in detail
Translation
RVCC publishes no translation rule of its own; the NACES agency sets it.
Evaluation (F-1 admission)
A general evaluation of high school proficiency, required for admission and the Form I-20 (International students).
Evaluation (credit)
An official course-by-course evaluation of university study abroad (International students).
Accepted evaluators
Members of NACES (International students, outside the US).
Residents and immigrants
The application prep list asks students who studied in another country for an evaluation of foreign transcripts from NACES (apply to RVCC).
How to apply (F-1)
Email one PDF of the completed checklist documents to international@raritanval.edu; the application is processed in 3–4 business days with conditional admission (International students).
Deadlines (F-1)
Fall: June 1 (July 1 for F-1 transfers in the US). Spring: November 15 (December 1). No winter or summer starts (International students).
Two evaluations, for two purposes
RVCC separates the record that gets you in from the record that earns credit. For admission in F-1 status and the I-20, you submit an evaluation of high school proficiency, and a general evaluation is enough.
If you also completed university courses at home and want them counted, you submit an official course-by-course evaluation of that transcript. Both must come from a member of NACES (international students).
Full admission and the I-20 are not issued until the application and supporting documents are complete, while the first step is quick: after you submit the application you receive an RVCC ID and conditional admission within 3–4 business days.
The checklist documents then go to the International Student Services Office as one PDF by email (International students). With a June 1 fall deadline, plan the translation and the evaluation for the spring before.
Residents and immigrants with records from abroad
The NACES rule is not only for F-1 students.
RVCC's general application prep list includes an evaluation of foreign transcripts from NACES for students who studied in another country, next to the high school transcript that Early College, the Honors College, Nursing, OTA and financial aid applicants send (apply to RVCC).
The page for students outside the US gives the same instruction: use an approved NACES service (Students outside of the U.S.).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
WES requires an exact, word-for-word translation from a professional translator and does not accept translations by applicants (WES).
ECE accepts a complete, literal translation from anyone, including you, and sells an $85 translation waiver (ECE). IERF asks for complete English translations and may require professional ones (IERF).
The Evaluation Company accepts outside translations only from ATA-certified translators (TEC); eVerbary can provide one on request through a free quote.
Need a certified translation for RVCC?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school diploma or leaving certificate, for the general evaluation
- Secondary school transcripts or mark sheets
- University transcripts, for a course-by-course evaluation
- Bank statements and sponsor letters for the I-20, if not in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to RVCC
The translation is not sent to RVCC: it goes to the NACES agency with your documents, and the agency's evaluation is what RVCC reads.
F-1 applicants email the completed application documents as one PDF to international@raritanval.edu (International students).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For RVCC that means we translate your records for the agency; the general or course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from a NACES member after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does RVCC require a certified translation?
RVCC publishes no translation rule. It requires a NACES evaluation (International students), and the agency asks for the translation: WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).
Do I need an evaluation of my high school diploma?
Yes, for F-1 admission and the I-20: a general evaluation of high school proficiency (International students).
Do I need a course-by-course evaluation?
Only if you want transfer credit for university courses taken abroad (International students).
I am a resident with a foreign diploma. Does the rule apply to me?
RVCC's application prep list asks students who studied in another country for an evaluation of foreign transcripts from NACES (Apply to RVCC: application prep list).
What are the F-1 deadlines?
June 1 for fall and November 15 for spring; F-1 transfers already in the US have until July 1 and December 1 (International students).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
