How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Prairie State College publishes no translation rule of its own: international transcripts must be evaluated by a NACES member, such as ECE or WES, and a course-by-course evaluation is required before any credit is considered.

Prairie State's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

Worth knowing about Prairie State

NACES only

ECE and WES are the examples Prairie State gives.

Course by course

Required before transfer credit is considered.

Grades stay behind

Credit transfers; foreign grades do not.

Prairie State requirements in detail

Translation

Prairie State states no translation rule; international transcripts reach it through a NACES evaluation (Incoming transfer credit guidelines). The agency asks for the translation.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency. WES wants a professional translator; ECE accepts any complete, word-for-word translation.

Evaluation

A course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member, for example ECE or WES (Incoming transfer credit guidelines).

Request form

A Transcript Evaluation Request Form with your declared area of study; coursework is evaluated for your program (Incoming transfer credit guidelines).

What can transfer

Coursework from accredited institutions, 100 to 300 level, with a passing grade; C- grades do not transfer, a D does not count where Prairie State requires a C, and credits are converted to semester hours (Incoming transfer credit guidelines).

Enrollment

Official transcripts are not required to enroll, but are recommended as soon as possible; official high school transcripts showing completion are required for financial aid (admissions).

Health programs

Selective programs such as nursing need official transcripts from all previous colleges, with the request form, before the application deadline (nursing admissions).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

Prairie State accepts a NACES member and names ECE and WES as examples (transfer credit guidelines).

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency, does not accept translations by applicants and does not translate documents itself.

ECE asks for complete, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original and lets applicants prepare them themselves; for $85 it sells a Translation Waiver, under which ECE translates internally for the report and you receive no translation.

Whichever agency you choose, translate the transcript, the degree certificate and the grading scale together, so the course-by-course report can list each course with its credits and level.

How Prairie State uses the report

The evaluation does not award credit by itself.

Prairie State evaluates transfer coursework against your declared area of study, so the Transcript Evaluation Request Form matters; courses not already in its articulation database are reviewed by a Credentials Analyst, who may ask for a course description or syllabus, and you can ask for a review with a Course Articulation Review form (Incoming transfer credit guidelines).

Final grades do not transfer, only the credit, and at least 15 credit hours of an associate degree must be completed at Prairie State.

Because official transcripts are not required to enroll, residents with records from abroad can start classes while the evaluation is in progress.

Plan earlier for selective health programs, where previous college transcripts and the request form must be in before the deadline (nursing admissions), and for financial aid, which needs an official record of secondary school completion (admissions); see high school diploma translation.

Need a certified translation for Prairie State?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University transcripts and mark sheets, for the course-by-course evaluation
  • Degree or diploma certificates from the institution abroad
  • Course descriptions or syllabi, if the Credentials Analyst asks for them
  • Secondary school leaving certificate, for financial aid or the agency

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Prairie State

  • For international transcripts, the translation goes with your records to the NACES agency, not to Prairie State; the course-by-course evaluation is what Prairie State reads, with your Transcript Evaluation Request Form (Incoming transfer credit guidelines).

  • High school transcripts or equivalency records go to the Enrollment Services Office, ideally before the end of your first semester (Admissions: steps to enroll).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Prairie State that means we translate your records and any course descriptions; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from a NACES member such as ECE or WES after the translation.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Prairie State College require a certified translation?

Prairie State itself publishes no translation rule. It requires a NACES course-by-course evaluation of international transcripts (Incoming transfer credit guidelines), and the agency asks for the translation: WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).

Which evaluation agency should I use for Prairie State?

Any NACES member; Prairie State names ECE and WES as examples, and the report must be course-by-course (Incoming transfer credit guidelines).

Do I need my foreign transcripts evaluated before I can enroll?

No. Official transcripts are not required for enrollment, though Prairie State recommends sending them as soon as possible (Admissions: steps to enroll).

Will my foreign grades count in my Prairie State GPA?

No. Prairie State transfers credit, not final grades; quality points are awarded only for work completed at Prairie State (Incoming transfer credit guidelines).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
