Otis requirements in detail
Translation
Official translations of transcripts not in English, submitted with the official transcript (International students: how to apply).
Who may translate
A certified translation service.
Evaluation (transfer)
Course by course from a NACES agency, such as SpanTran, WES, Josef Silny, IEE, ECE or Global Credential Evaluators, for college study outside the US except Japan and Korea (International students: how to apply).
Transcripts
Unofficial transcripts accepted for review; admitted high school students send a final official transcript after graduation (International students: how to apply).
Portfolio
Required; no application is reviewed without one (International students: how to apply).
Deadlines (fall)
Early Action December 1, priority February 15, rolling after; spring priority November 1 (International students: how to apply).
English
TOEFL 79 (4.5 new scale), IELTS 6.5, PTE 58 or Duolingo 105 (International students: how to apply).
Translate first, then evaluate
Otis's international application page asks every international student to submit official translations for transcripts not in English, along with the official transcripts themselves.
International transfer applicants add a step: if they studied at a college or university outside the US, other than in Japan or Korea, they submit a course-by-course evaluation from an agency recommended by NACES, and Otis names SpanTran, WES, Josef Silny & Associates, IEE, ECE and Global Credential Evaluators.
The document must be officially translated into English by a certified translation service before it is submitted to the agency.
So the same certified translation serves twice: with your transcripts for the Otis file, and with your records for the evaluation agency, which sets its own rule.
WES, for example, accepts translations from professional services and not from applicants. For the school record, see high school diploma translation.
Portfolio, Foundation year and entry points
Otis reviews no application without a portfolio, submitted free through its online application or by link after a Common App submission, and asks for a personal statement of at least 500 words.
First-year students enter the Foundation program; transfers can enter at sophomore or junior level in fall, or as second-semester sophomores in spring. SAT and ACT are optional (International students: how to apply).
Need a certified translation for Otis?

Documents applicants usually translate
- High school transcripts and diploma
- College or university transcripts, for transfer

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Otis
Upload or send the certified translation with each transcript through the Otis Online Application or the Common App; transfer applicants also send the translation with their records to the NACES agency, which delivers the evaluation to Otis (International students: how to apply).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Otis that means we translate your transcripts; the course-by-course evaluation for international transfers is ordered by you.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
