How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Northwestern State University of Louisiana requires every applicant with secondary or post-secondary credentials from outside the US, regardless of citizenship, immigrant or visa status, to have them evaluated by an approved US professional service, such as WES, ECE, FCSA or any NACES member, sent directly to Admissions: document-by-document with a cumulative GPA for freshmen, course-by-course for transfer and graduate applicants.
Northwestern State's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and FCSA, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. The evaluation itself is something we do not produce.
Northwestern State at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Northwestern State asks for an evaluation from an approved service or any NACES member (academic credentials evaluation), and WES accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES rule), as do ECE and FCSA; GCE and IACEI want a translator certified by ATA. Northwestern State requirements in detail
Translation
No rule of its own; the evaluation service needs the translation (Academic credentials evaluation).
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation service; see below.
Who needs it
Undergraduate and graduate applicants with education outside the US, regardless of citizenship, immigrant or visa status (Academic credentials evaluation).
Report type
Freshmen: document-by-document with cumulative GPA. Transfer and graduate: course-by-course (Academic credentials evaluation).
Approved services
AACRAO, ECE, FCSA, GCE, IACEI, Josef Silny & Associates and WES, or any current NACES member (Academic credentials evaluation).
Delivery
The service sends the evaluation directly to Undergraduate or Graduate Admissions (Academic credentials evaluation).
What each evaluation service asks for the translation
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator. ECE accepts any complete, literal translation, including your own, or translates internally for an $85 waiver.
FCSA accepts certified translations from most professional agencies and lets you or a relative translate Spanish documents.
GCE and IACEI accept only ATA-certified translators, and Josef Silny wants ATA-certified translators in the US; for those, ask eVerbary for a free quote.
The right report for each applicant
Northwestern State asks for different reports: a document-by-document evaluation with cumulative GPA for freshman admission, and a course-by-course evaluation for transfers and graduate studies; you need only one service (Academic credentials evaluation).
The rule covers foreign high school records of US citizens and immigrants as well as F-1 applicants.

Uploading the translation to Northwestern State
The translation goes to the evaluation service with your records; the service sends the evaluation directly to Northwestern State's Undergraduate or Graduate Admissions office (Academic credentials evaluation).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Northwestern State that means we translate your records; the document-by-document or course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from an approved service.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Northwestern State require a translation or an evaluation?
An evaluation from an approved service (Academic credentials evaluation); the service asks for the translation.
I am a US citizen with a foreign diploma. Do I need an evaluation?

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for GCE or IACEI?
Yes, on request through a free quote: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian at $34.95 per page, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian at $44.95. ATA certifies no other languages into English.
