How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

North Seattle College admits international students through Seattle Colleges, which asks underage applicants and dependents for original and English-translated copies without saying who translates.

For credit from a college abroad, North Seattle's credentials office wants the transcript in the original language, an English translation by a third-party agency handed over in a sealed envelope, and a NACES or AICE course-by-course report.

North Seattle College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; the course-by-course report comes from an evaluation agency, which we are not.

Worth knowing about North Seattle

Three documents

Original transcript, sealed translation, course-by-course report.

Do not open it

An opened agency envelope counts as unofficial.

12 weeks minimum

Official credit evaluations take at least 12 weeks.

North Seattle requirements in detail

Translation (admission)

Underage applicants (16 or 17) send original and English-translated high school transcripts; dependents send original and translated marriage or birth certificates (Seattle Colleges international admission requirements).

Translation (credit from abroad)

Transcripts in the original language with an English translation by a third-party agency, given to you in a sealed envelope (North Seattle College: international credits).

Who may translate

A third-party agency for credit (North Seattle College: international credits); not stated for admission documents.

Evaluation

Not required for admission (Seattle Colleges: transferring credits). For credit: an official course-by-course report from a NACES or AICE member; ECE is listed as a recommended agency (North Seattle College: international credits).

Sealed documents

Hand-delivered transcripts are accepted only sealed, and an opened transcript or agency report is unofficial (North Seattle College: credentials and credit evaluation).

Who can request credit

New students enrolled for the current or upcoming quarter, or returning students enrolled at North within four years; degree or certificate seekers only (North Seattle College: credentials and credit evaluation).

Timing

At least 12 weeks; Seattle Colleges advises requesting the evaluation as soon as your visa is granted (North Seattle College: credentials and credit evaluation, transferring credits).

Credit from a college abroad: what North Seattle wants in the envelope

North Seattle's credentials office lists three official documents for every international transcript: the official transcript from your home country, an English translation, and a course-by-course evaluation report (international credits).

Transcripts are submitted in the original language with an English translation by a third-party agency, and the agency should give you the translation in a sealed envelope; opening it voids the verification.

The course-by-course report must come from a member of NACES or AICE, and the page names Educational Credential Evaluators as a recommended agency.

You then follow North's general steps: send the sealed agency evaluation and the international transcript to the credentials office, check in ctcLink that an Advising Note shows them as received, and submit the Evaluation Request form (credentials). eVerbary can mail the translation to you in a sealed, signed envelope: choose the hard copy at checkout with your address ($19.95 Priority or $37.95 Express in the US) and write in the order notes that it is for North Seattle College.

Where North Seattle's page differs from itself

The same international credits page first says the translation is to be made "by an approved evaluation service", then that it is made by a third-party agency that hands it to you sealed (North Seattle College: international credits).

It does not name approved services. If you plan to use one agency for both the translation and the report, ask the credentials office (NSCcredentials@seattlecolleges.edu) which reading applies before you order.

Admission first, through Seattle Colleges

International admission to North, Central and South is handled by one Seattle Colleges office.

Most applicants send no transcripts; students who will be 16 or 17 when classes start provide original and English-translated copies of high school transcripts showing at least 9th grade, or a copy of the diploma (underage applicants).

Credit is decided later by North's own registrar, and only for one program of study; North warns that credit it accepts may not be recognized by other colleges (North Seattle College: international credits, North Seattle College: credentials and credit evaluation).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

At North Seattle that means the NACES or AICE course-by-course report for credit comes from an agency such as ECE; we translate the transcript and can mail the translation sealed.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a translation to apply to North Seattle College?

Only some applicants do: students who will be 16 or 17 at the start of classes send original and English-translated high school transcripts, and dependents send translated certificates (Seattle Colleges international admission requirements).

Who can translate my foreign college transcript for North Seattle credit?

A third-party agency, which should give you the translation in a sealed envelope (North Seattle College: international credits). North Seattle College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Can I open the envelope before sending it?

No. North treats an opened transcript or agency report as unofficial (North Seattle College: credentials and credit evaluation).

Which evaluation agency should I use?

A NACES or AICE member that issues a course-by-course report; North lists ECE as recommended (North Seattle College: international credits).

How long does the credit evaluation take?

At least 12 weeks, and only enrolled degree or certificate seekers can request it (North Seattle College: credentials and credit evaluation).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
