How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
City Tech asks international freshmen and transfer applicants for English translations of their foreign documents, prepared under CUNY's Translation Guidelines for Students Educated Outside the US, which accept a translation agency but not you or your family.
New York City College of Technology (CUNY) accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Evaluation of foreign records runs through CUNY's central office, and admitted transfers then send official transcripts; neither the evaluation nor the official transcripts are something we provide.

Who may translate
CUNY's guidelines: a translation agency, consulate, immigrant association, your school or a US faculty member; not you or your family (CUNY Document Translation Guidelines (PDF)).
Format
Complete and literal, same format as the original, on letterhead, signed by the translator, with the original-language document (CUNY Document Translation Guidelines (PDF)).
Freshman documents
Secondary school transcripts or statement of marks, their translations and TOEFL (61 iBT, 500 paper) or IELTS Academic 6 (International students: prepare to apply).
Transfer documents
College, university or proprietary school transcripts, the high school transcript or GED, translations and test scores (International students: prepare to apply).
After admission
Official transcripts with an official seal and graduation date, or a sealed letter from the registrar; electronic records come directly from the institution (transfer checklist).
Deadlines
Fall: February 1. Spring: September 1 (International students: prepare to apply).
City Tech's international checklist
City Tech's Office of International Student Services lists what international applicants prepare before applying, and the translation appears for both groups: freshmen send secondary school transcripts or a statement of marks, transfers send college, university or proprietary school transcripts plus the high school transcript, and both add English translations of foreign documents, with a link to CUNY's guidelines (International students: prepare to apply).
The general deadlines are February 1 for fall and September 1 for spring.
The guidelines decide how the translation must look: complete and word-for-word, laid out like the original, typed on letterhead and signed by a translator who knows the language, and always submitted with the original-language document (CUNY Document Translation Guidelines (PDF)).
An eVerbary certified translation is prepared that way. The CUNY page explains the central evaluation.
Transfers: official records after admission
Once admitted, transfers send City Tech official transcripts from every college or post-secondary institution attended; each must carry the official seal and show the graduation date, and if it cannot, a sealed letter from the registrar is accepted.
Electronic records must come directly from the institution (Transfer student checklist (PDF)). If those records are not in English, keep the certified translation with them so the transfer credit evaluation can use it.
Need a certified translation for City Tech?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts or statement of marks
- High school diploma
- College, university or proprietary school transcripts
- Registrar letter confirming graduation, if the transcript lacks a date
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to City Tech
Upload the documents and their translations with your CUNY application; City Tech's international advisors can be reached at the Namm Hall office listed on the prepare to apply page.
We send a signed PDF and can email it directly to the admissions office on request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For City Tech that means we translate your records; the CUNY evaluation and the official transcripts from your schools are separate.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
