How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Marshall University publishes no translation rule of its own: transfer and graduate applicants need a course-by-course evaluation, with a cumulative GPA, from a NACES or AICE member for all college coursework earned outside the US, while freshmen send their secondary records from the issuing school and Marshall calculates the GPA.

Marshall's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and IERF, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You order the translation first and send it to the agency; the evaluation is something we do not provide.

Marshall requirements in detail

Translation

Marshall states no translation rule (International admissions: deadlines and requirements); the translation is what the evaluation agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency (see below).

Transfer and graduate

A course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member for all college coursework earned outside the US, including a CGPA and based on authenticated or verified documents (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Freshmen

Official secondary records (transcripts, mark sheets, final exam results) sent directly by the issuing source; a NACES or AICE evaluation is an optional alternative, and Marshall calculates the GPA, minimum 2.00 (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Transfers with 30+ credits

Secondary records may not be required (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Delivery

The agency sends the evaluation to international@marshall.edu or through its Marshall portal; student copies are not official (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

What the evaluation agencies ask for the translation

Marshall accepts any NACES member or AICE endorsed member (international admission requirements). WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept applicants' own.

ECE accepts a complete, literal translation, including your own, and sells an $85 waiver. IERF asks for typed, line-by-line translations and may require a professional one.

Marshall adds that the evaluation must be based on authenticated or verified documents, and that once it is sent you do not need to send or upload your college credentials separately (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

That makes the translation you give the agency the only English version Marshall relies on, so translate every page, stamp and grade.

Freshmen, transfers and graduate applicants

For freshmen, Marshall reads the secondary record itself: official coursework and proof of completion for grades 9 to 12, sent directly by the issuing source, and it calculates and converts the GPA (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

An evaluation is optional. Any extra document Marshall wants appears on your application portal.

Transfers with fewer than 30 college credits also meet the freshman requirements; with 30 or more, the secondary record may not be needed.

Graduate admission requires a bachelor's from an accepted, accredited institution and the NACES or AICE evaluation of all required college coursework (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Need a certified translation for Marshall?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University transcripts or mark sheets, for the course-by-course evaluation
  • Bachelor's degree certificate
  • Secondary transcripts and final exam results (freshmen and transfers under 30 credits)
  • Grading scale printed on the transcript

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Marshall

  • The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records; the agency sends the course-by-course report to Marshall.

  • Official documents reach Marshall only from the issuing source or the evaluation company, by email to international@marshall.edu or through the company's portal (International admissions: deadlines and requirements). We can also email the translation directly to an office on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Marshall that means we translate your records for the agency; the NACES or AICE course-by-course evaluation with CGPA is ordered by you and sent by the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Marshall require a certified translation?

Marshall itself states no translation rule; it requires a NACES or AICE course-by-course evaluation for college work abroad (International admissions: deadlines and requirements), and the agency sets the translation rule.

Do freshmen need a credential evaluation?

No. It is an optional alternative; Marshall calculates the GPA from your secondary records (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Which agencies does Marshall accept?

Any NACES member or AICE endorsed member (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Do I also send my university transcripts to Marshall?

Not for college-level coursework once the evaluation is sent: Marshall says there is no need to send or upload additional copies at that point (International admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
