How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Lake Superior State University requires international first-time and transfer students to provide official transcripts evaluated by WES, ECE or TEC on a comprehensive course-by-course basis, with a discounted TEC application for LSSU students.

LSSU's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, and for TEC eVerbary provides an ATA-certified translator on request.

You translate first and send the translation to the agency; the evaluation itself is something we do not produce.

LSSU requirements in detail

Translation

No rule of its own; transcripts reach LSSU through the evaluation (International students).

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency; see below.

Evaluation

Required: WES, ECE or TEC, comprehensive course by course (International students).

First-time students

The secondary school sends LSSU an official copy of the evaluated transcript by mail or email (International students).

Transfer students

Official evaluated college transcripts by post, and evaluated secondary records if under 12 semester hours of credit (International students).

English

TOEFL iBT 61 or paper 500, among other options (International students).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not translate. ECE accepts any complete, literal translation, including your own, or translates internally for an $85 waiver.

TEC, which offers LSSU students a discount, requires an outside translator certified by ATA or translates in-house after the application is complete.

If you choose TEC, ask eVerbary for a free quote for an ATA-certified translator and say it is for TEC.

Course by course, even for high school

LSSU asks for a comprehensive course-by-course report for first-time college students as well as transfers (International students), so a general high school evaluation is not enough.

Translate every year of the secondary record and the grading scale, so the agency can list each course. Transfers with fewer than 12 semester hours also send evaluated secondary records.

Need a certified translation for LSSU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts, every year, and the diploma
  • College or university transcripts, for transfer students
  • Degree certificates

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to LSSU

  • The translation goes to WES, ECE or TEC with your records; the evaluated transcript reaches LSSU by mail or email, and transfers send evaluated records by post (International students).

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for LSSU, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For LSSU that means we translate your records; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from WES, ECE or TEC.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a credential evaluation required for LSSU?

Yes, from WES, ECE or TEC, course by course, for first-year and transfer students (International students).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC?

Yes, through a free quote, for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) or Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page). ATA certifies no other languages into English.

Can I translate my records myself?

For ECE, yes, if complete and word for word (ECE). WES and TEC do not accept translations by applicants.

Do transfers need high school records?

Yes, evaluated, if they have fewer than 12 semester hours of credit (International students).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
