How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Johnson C. Smith University requires international applicants to send an official course-by-course evaluation with GPA from a NACES or AICE member, sent directly to JCSU, and its catalog asks that documents not in English come with an official English translation.
JCSU's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and IEE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.
JCSU at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
JCSU asks for an evaluation from a NACES or AICE member (international admissions), and WES accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES translation rules); ECE and IEE, also NACES members, accept one as well. Policy checked on October 27, 2026.

JCSU requirements in detail
Evaluation
Official course-by-course evaluation with GPA by a NACES or AICE member, sent directly to JCSU (International students).
Translation
Through the evaluation; the catalog also says documents not in English must come with an official English translation (catalog).
Who may translate
Set by the agency: WES, ECE and IEE accept a translation from a professional service. The catalog prefers a translation from an accredited US evaluation agency.
Completion proof
Verification of graduation from secondary school or college (International students).
Financial
Declaration or Certification of Finance and a certified bank or sponsor statement (International students).
Transfer credit
Grades of C or higher; up to 64 credits from a two-year and 90 from a four-year institution (transfer students).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
JCSU accepts any NACES or AICE member, so the translation rule is the agency's. WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator or service, not by the applicant.
ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations, including your own, and sells an $85 translation waiver. IEE wants a certified translator, not the applicant or a notary public. Pick the agency first, then order a translation that meets its rule.
The 2024-2025 catalog adds that the high school transcript should be in English, preferably translated by an accredited transcript evaluation agency in the United States (catalog, p. 21).
That is a preference, not a condition; the current admissions page requires only the evaluation (International students).
Credit for courses taken abroad
For transfer credit, the Registrar wants certified original documents with an official English translation, and for specific JCSU course equivalencies you add detailed course descriptions in English or an evaluation from a service such as WES or IEE (catalog, p. 35).
Course descriptions or syllabi are long; send the agency or the Registrar only the courses you want counted, and translate those in full. Only grades of C or higher transfer, and only credits, not grade points (transfer students).

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to JCSU
The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records; the agency sends the course-by-course report directly to JCSU (International students).
Your other documents go to the Office of Admissions; translated transcripts and course descriptions for credit go to the Office of the Registrar (catalog). We can also email the translation directly to admissions on request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For JCSU that means we translate your records and course descriptions; the course-by-course evaluation with GPA is ordered by you from a NACES or AICE member.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Which evaluation does JCSU require?
An official course-by-course evaluation with GPA from a NACES or AICE member, sent directly to JCSU (International students).
Must the translation come from a US evaluation agency?
No. The catalog says "preferably" (catalog); the agency you choose decides what translation it accepts, and WES accepts one from a professional service (WES).
How do I get credit for a specific JCSU course?
Include detailed course descriptions in English with your transcript, or an evaluation from a service such as WES or IEE (catalog).
How many credits can I transfer?
Up to 64 from a two-year and 90 from a four-year institution, for grades of C or higher (Transfer students).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
