Requirements checked on October 27, 2026 from JWU's public pages (sources).

Johnson & Wales University asks international undergraduate and graduate applicants to submit certified word-for-word translations with all documents not in English, and it assesses international qualifications itself for admission.

Johnson & Wales University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Students who want credit for coursework from outside the US must also request, after acceptance, a course-by-course evaluation from WES, ECE or another recognized service, which is something we do not produce.

JWU at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

JWU's catalog says "certified word-for-word translations must be submitted with all non-English documents" (international admissions requirements) and does not restrict who translates; a certified, word-for-word translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Policy checked on October 27, 2026.

Sample translation: a Brazilian university transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with invented names, school and numbers. The original in Portuguese sits next to our English translation, and the PDF starts with the signed certification page. Bracketed text in the translation is a translator's note: each abbreviation is spelled out the first time it appears, and the layout follows the original line for line, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • CPF, RG, MEC, D.O.U., CH, CR and ENADE are spelled out in brackets the first time they appear, and only then.
  • Status codes (AP, RM, RF, AE) are explained on first use, so a course failed and retaken the next term reads correctly.
  • Grades, decimal commas and dates stay exactly as printed; the date format is noted once. Converting grades is the evaluator's job.
  • Terms, rows and columns follow the original line for line, so each course can be matched at a glance.

Worth knowing about JWU

Word for word

Certified, for every non-English document.

JWU assesses

International qualifications, for admission.

After acceptance

WES or ECE course-by-course, for credit.

JWU requirements in detail

Translation

Certified word-for-word translations with all non-English documents, undergraduate and graduate (International admissions requirements).

Who may translate

Admission review

JWU assesses international qualifications itself, for entry to all programs (International admissions requirements).

Transfer credit

After acceptance, a course-by-course evaluation from WES, ECE or another recognized credential evaluation service; course descriptions or syllabi may be requested (International admissions requirements).

Undergraduate records

Official secondary transcript with subjects, marks and graduation date, plus diplomas and external exam results (International admissions requirements).

Graduate records

Official or certified transcripts and degree certificates; copies, scans or US notary copies may serve for the application, but official or certified documents are required before final enrollment (International admissions requirements).

Where to send

Upload to the applicant portal; final official documents by courier or in person to the campus, e.g. 8 Abbott Park Place, Providence (International admissions requirements).

Certified, word-for-word, for every document

JWU repeats the same rule in each part of its international requirements: certified word-for-word translations must accompany all non-English documents, from the secondary school transcript and external exam results to post-secondary credentials such as associate degrees, diplomas, bachelor's and master's degrees (international admissions requirements).

Bank statements and sponsorship letters for the I-20 are documents too, and must be legible; the office warns that anything it cannot read delays the admission and the I-20.

JWU assesses international qualifications itself for admission to all programs, so for most applicants the translation goes straight to JWU, without a separate evaluation.

Transfer credit: an evaluation after acceptance

Applicants with coursework from an institution outside the US who want courses transferred send JWU all official documentation and, after acceptance, request a course-by-course evaluation from World Education Services, ECE or another recognized service; JWU may also ask for course descriptions or syllabi, again with certified word-for-word English translations (International admissions requirements).

WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator, so one certified translation can serve both JWU and the evaluator.

Graduate programs in Providence

Graduate programs for international students are offered at the Providence campus only.

Photocopies, faxes, US notary copies and scans may be valid for the application, but official or certified transcripts and degree certificates must be presented by mail or in person before final enrollment; without them a student cannot register and risks losing immigration status (International admissions requirements). English test results must be no more than two years old.

Need a certified translation for JWU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcript and diploma
  • External examination results
  • University transcripts, mark sheets and degree certificates

  • Bank statement or government sponsorship letter

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to JWU

  • Upload the documents and their certified translations to your JWU applicant portal; send official or certified final documents by courier or bring them to the campus where you will enroll (International admissions requirements).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For JWU that means we translate your documents; the WES or ECE course-by-course evaluation for transfer credit is ordered by you after acceptance.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of translation does Johnson & Wales accept?

A certified, word-for-word translation of every document not in English; JWU does not say who must make it (International admissions requirements).

Do I need a WES evaluation to be admitted?

No. JWU assesses international qualifications itself; the evaluation is for transfer credit, requested after acceptance (International admissions requirements).

Can I apply with scanned copies?

Graduate applicants may use copies or scans for the application; official or certified documents are required before final enrollment (International admissions requirements).

Where are graduate programs for international students?

At the Providence campus only (International admissions requirements).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
