How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Iona asks undergraduate international applicants for a high school transcript translated into English, without saying who must translate, and for a course-by-course evaluation through The Evaluation Company (TEC).
Iona University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
TEC itself takes outside translations only from a translator certified by ATA, so for the evaluation Iona accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary when the translator is individually certified by ATA, which eVerbary provides on request; the evaluation is something we do not provide.
Iona at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Iona's international checklist asks for a high school transcript "translated into English" and does not restrict who translates (how to apply); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation.
For the TEC evaluation, TEC wants an ATA-certified translator (TEC), which eVerbary assigns on request. Policy checked on October 27, 2026.

Iona requirements in detail
Translation
High school transcript translated into English (International students: how to apply).
Who may translate
Not stated by Iona (International students: how to apply); TEC, for its evaluation, accepts ATA-certified translators.
Evaluation (first-year)
Course-by-course evaluation through The Evaluation Company; not required if you already hold an associate degree from a US institution (International students: how to apply).
Transfers
An evaluation of the international college transcript by a NACES-recognized service, and a WES evaluation of the final transcript to receive transfer credit (transfer).
Graduate
Evaluation of international credentials by a NACES-recognized service (International students: how to apply).
Copies or originals
Copies of transcripts work for the review; the I-20 is not issued until the original documents arrive (International students: how to apply).
Exam results
External examination results or leaving certificate, such as A-levels, CXC, Baccalaureate or Abitur (International students: how to apply).
A translation for Iona and one for TEC
Iona's checklist lists the translated high school transcript and the evaluation as separate items. The translation is read by Iona, which states no rule on who makes it.
The evaluation goes through The Evaluation Company, and Iona asks you to choose the course-by-course option through its TEC request link (International students: how to apply).
TEC has its own translation rule: an outside translator must be certified by ATA, or TEC translates in-house (TEC).
If you want one translation for both, ask eVerbary for a free quote, say it is for TEC, and we assign a translator individually certified by ATA.
Transfers: NACES for admission, WES for credit
International transfer students supply an evaluation of their college transcript by a NACES-recognized service, and for transfer credit Iona asks you to send WES an official final transcript so WES can report how the work should be interpreted (transfer).
WES requires a word-for-word translation by a professional translator or translation service and does not accept applicants' own translations (WES).
Students with fewer than 24 college credits attempted, as granted by WES, also send their external exam results or leaving certificate.
Copies, originals and the I-20
Iona reviews applications from copies, but issues the I-20 only after receiving original documents; after the tuition deposit, the I-20 can come about two weeks after a complete I-20 application (International students: how to apply).
First-year deadlines are December 1 (Early Decision), December 15 (Early Action I and Health Sciences priority) and January 15 (Early Action II).
Need a certified translation for Iona?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school transcripts, every year
- Leaving certificate or external exam results (A-levels, CXC, Baccalaureate, Abitur)
- University transcripts, for transfer or graduate applicants
- Degree certificates, for graduate applicants
- Bank statements, if not in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Iona
Upload a copy of the transcript and its translation with the online application for review; mail the originals before the I-20 is issued (International students: how to apply). The TEC evaluation is requested through the link on Iona's how-to-apply page and sent by TEC.
Transfers can email unofficial documents to the transfer coordinator; official transcripts go directly to Admissions (Transfer admissions: how to apply).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Iona, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Iona that means we translate your records; the TEC, NACES or WES evaluation is ordered and paid by you, after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Iona accept a translation from a translation company?
Iona asks for a transcript translated into English and does not say who must translate (International students: how to apply). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
Do I need an evaluation if I have a US associate degree?
No. Iona does not require a transcript evaluation if you already hold an associate degree from a US institution (International students: how to apply).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for the TEC evaluation?
Yes: ask for a free quote and say it is for TEC. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English, and no other languages (TEC rule).
Can I send copies first?
Yes, for the admission review; the I-20 waits until Iona receives the originals (International students: how to apply).
Which evaluation do I need for transfer credit?
A WES evaluation of your official final transcript (Transfer admissions: how to apply).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
