How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) requires graduate applicants to have non-US university transcripts evaluated course-by-course by a NACES member, and strongly encourages undergraduates to send records through IEE, WES or another NACES member, which is required for students from eight countries.
IUP's evaluation agencies, such as IEE, WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You translate first and send the translation to the agency with your records; the agency sends IUP the evaluation, which we do not produce.

IUP requirements in detail
Translation
IUP's central pages ask for records in English and leave the translation to the evaluation agency; the Eberly MBA asks for an official English translation.
Undergraduate
Official secondary transcripts in English; NACES evaluation (IEE, WES or another member) strongly encouraged, and required for Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Haiti, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria and Togo (International undergraduate requirements).
Graduate
Course-by-course evaluation by any NACES member of every non-US university transcript; three to six weeks, at your cost (International graduate requirements).
Exemptions (graduate)
US degrees, US government sponsorship, select offshore IUP programs, exchange partners and select agents; those transcripts must be in English, sealed by the institution and sent directly (International graduate requirements).
Who may translate
Deadlines (undergraduate)
Fall: July 1 (mid-August if in the US). Spring: November 15 (mid-January if in the US) (International undergraduate requirements).
When IUP requires the evaluation
For undergraduates, IUP strongly encourages every international applicant to submit transcripts through International Education Evaluations, World Education Services or another NACES member, and requires it for students from Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Haiti, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria and Togo.
Transcripts sent directly by students who are not required to use an evaluator must carry the official seal of the institution, and IUP cannot forward transcripts to an agency for you (International undergraduate requirements).
For graduate study the evaluation is the rule: all non-US university transcripts are evaluated course-by-course by a NACES member, with discounts at The Evaluation Company and ECE, and only a short list of applicants (US degrees, Fulbright-type sponsorship, offshore programs, exchange partners, select agents) is exempt (International graduate requirements).
The Eberly MBA page adds that an official English translation is required for transcripts not in English (MBA).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
IEE: a translation by a certified translator, not by the applicant or a notary; IEE also sells its own translation (IEE FAQ). WES: an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator; WES does not translate (WES).
ECE: complete, literal translations, including your own, or an $85 waiver under which ECE translates internally for the report only (ECE).
The Evaluation Company: an outside translator must be certified by ATA (TEC); if you want the TEC discount, eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request through a free quote.
Need a certified translation for IUP?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificates
- National examination results (WAEC and similar)
- University transcripts and degree certificates
- Bank statements for the financial affidavit, if not in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to IUP
The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records, not to IUP; the agency forwards the evaluation to IUP (International undergraduate requirements, graduate).
Exempt graduate applicants have English transcripts with the institution seal sent directly to IUP (International graduate requirements).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For IUP that means we translate your records for the agency; the NACES evaluation is ordered by you from IEE, WES, TEC, ECE or another member.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Will IEE or WES accept an eVerbary translation?
