How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026
Gonzaga University asks first-year and transfer applicants to submit transcripts both in their native language and in English, and its transfer credit policy requires an official English translation provided by the sending institution or a translation agency.
Gonzaga accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Credit earned abroad also needs a NACES-approved course-by-course evaluation, and graduate applicants need one for every foreign degree; we do not provide evaluations.

Gonzaga requirements in detail
Translation
First-year and transfer applicants submit transcripts in both their native language and in English (Gonzaga catalog: undergraduate admission).
Who may translate
For credit from a foreign institution: the sending institution or a translation agency (Gonzaga catalog: academic policies (transfer credit)).
Evaluation (undergraduate)
College credit earned outside the US generally needs a NACES-approved professional evaluation, unless earned on an approved study abroad program; transfer applicants provide a course-by-course evaluation once admitted (Gonzaga catalog: academic policies (transfer credit); admission).
Evaluation (graduate)
Every foreign transcript through a NACES evaluator, course by course for all degrees earned outside the US; TEC or ECE recommended, WES accepted (Gonzaga catalog: graduate admission).
Originals
Students with foreign credit provide certified original documents; transcripts must arrive sealed and addressed to the Office of Admission (Gonzaga catalog: academic policies (transfer credit)).
Course descriptions
When a course cannot be matched on first review, syllabi and learning outcomes go to transfercredit@gonzaga.edu, with an English translation if they come from abroad (Gonzaga catalog: academic policies (transfer credit)).
Original and English side by side
Gonzaga's catalog asks every first-year applicant to prove secondary education equivalent to a US high school with official transcripts, and to send them in both the native language and English; transfer applicants do the same for every post-secondary institution attended (admission).
The admission section does not say who must translate, but the academic policies do for foreign credit: an official English translation from the sending institution or a translation agency, with certified original documents (academic policies).
The same policy reaches beyond transcripts.
If the transfer credit team cannot match a course from its title, it asks for the syllabus, learning outcomes and lab schedules, and course materials from a foreign institution must come with an English translation.
Translating the syllabi of the courses you most want counted, together with the transcript, avoids a second round.
Evaluations: undergraduate after admission, graduate before
For undergraduates the professional course-by-course evaluation comes after admission (Gonzaga catalog: undergraduate admission), and credit from an approved study abroad program is exempt.
Graduate applicants applying directly to a program evaluate every foreign transcript through a NACES-approved third party before a decision; Gonzaga recommends The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran) or ECE and also accepts others such as WES (graduate admission).
Each agency has its own translation rule. ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations in the original's format and sells an $85 Translation Waiver. WES wants a professional translator or service and not the applicant.
The Evaluation Company asks for an outside translator certified by the American Translators Association; for TEC, eVerbary can assign one through a free quote, for the languages ATA certifies.

Uploading the translation to Gonzaga
Undergraduate applications go through the Common Application; official transcripts and their English versions go to the Office of Admission, and syllabi to transfercredit@gonzaga.edu (Gonzaga catalog: academic policies (transfer credit)).
Graduate applicants send the translation to the evaluation agency, which reports to Gonzaga; questions go to gradadmissions@gonzaga.edu (Gonzaga catalog: graduate admission).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
At Gonzaga that means the NACES course-by-course evaluation for foreign credit or graduate admission is ordered from the agency; we translate the records.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Gonzaga accept a translation from a translation company?
Yes. For credit earned at a foreign institution, Gonzaga accepts an official English translation from the sending institution or a translation agency (Gonzaga catalog: academic policies (transfer credit)).
Do I send the original-language transcript too?
Yes. Gonzaga asks for transcripts in both your native language and in English (Gonzaga catalog: undergraduate admission).
Which evaluation agency does Gonzaga want for graduate school?
A NACES-approved evaluator, course by course; TEC and ECE are recommended and WES is accepted (Gonzaga catalog: graduate admission).
Do I need an evaluation as an undergraduate transfer?
Yes, once admitted: a professional course-by-course evaluation, unless the credit came from an approved study abroad program (Gonzaga catalog: undergraduate admission; policies).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
