How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Ensign College publishes no translation rule of its own: international applicants send their secondary or college transcripts to an approved evaluation agency, IERF (preferred, detail report) or TEC, and Ensign discards international transcripts that arrive without an evaluation.

Ensign's evaluation agency IERF accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. You order the translation first and send it to the agency; the agency writes the evaluation, which we do not provide.

IERF preferred

Unevaluated international transcripts are discarded.

4 to 6 weeks

Before the deadline, for the agency to report.

Ensign requirements in detail

Translation

Ensign states no translation rule; records from abroad reach it through an evaluation. The translation is what the agency needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency (see below).

Agencies

International Education Research Foundation (IERF), preferred, with the detail report; or TEC (formerly SpanTran), with a course analysis (Ensign College: international admissions).

First-year

Secondary school completed outside the US: the official secondary transcript goes to IERF or TEC (Ensign College: international admissions).

Transfer

24 or more college credits: college transcripts only; fewer than 24: secondary records for grades 9 to 12 and college transcripts, all to the agency (Ensign College: international admissions).

Deadlines

International applicants: November 15, 2026 for winter 2027, March 1, 2027 for spring, July 1, 2027 for fall (Ensign College: international admissions).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

IERF, Ensign's preferred agency, asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, does not require certified or notarized ones, and reserves the right to ask for a professional translation; its glossary calls one required.

Select Ensign College as the recipient and choose the detail report (international admissions).

TEC asks for an outside translator certified by the American Translators Association, or translates through its own team. If you choose TEC, eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator through a free quote, for the languages ATA certifies.

Send records to the agency, not to Ensign

Ensign asks applicants not to send international transcripts directly, and discards any that are not properly evaluated (Ensign College: international admissions).

Plan the agency time into the deadline: Ensign suggests getting documents to IERF or TEC four to six weeks before the application deadline.

Transcripts from US colleges go a different way, through Parchment, the National Student Clearinghouse, collegetranscript@byu.edu or CES Central Processing in Provo, using one method only.

  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.

Uploading the translation to Ensign

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Ensign that means we translate your records for IERF or TEC; the evaluation is ordered by you from the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ensign College require a certified translation?

Ensign itself publishes no translation rule; it requires an evaluation from IERF or TEC (Ensign College: international admissions), and the agency sets the translation rule.

Which IERF report does Ensign need?

The detail report (Ensign College: international admissions).

Can I send my foreign transcripts to Ensign directly?

No. Ensign discards international transcripts that are not properly evaluated (Ensign College: international admissions).

Can I use an eVerbary translation with TEC?

TEC asks for an outside translator certified by ATA (TEC). eVerbary can provide one through a free quote, for Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) or Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
