ECC at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
ECC's foreign credit page says a certified translator must translate your transcript before you submit it for evaluation (college credit earned outside the US), and its F-1 checklist asks for an official English translation without restricting who makes it (how to apply); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. Worth knowing about ECC
Certified translator
Required before a foreign credit evaluation.
Four named agencies
ECE, Educational Perspectives, TEC and WES.
WES for health
Recommended for health professions programs.
ECC requirements in detail
Translation (F-1)
An official English translation of secondary school transcripts and the diploma if not issued in English (How to apply: international students).
Translation (foreign credit)
A certified translator must translate the transcript before you submit it for evaluation (Evaluation of college credit earned outside the U.S.).
Who may translate
A certified translator for credit; not stated for F-1 admission (Evaluation of college credit earned outside the U.S., how to apply).
Copies
Notarized copies of school records are acceptable and may be submitted electronically (How to apply: international students).
Evaluation
Not needed for admission. For credit: a course-by-course or detailed report from ECE, Educational Perspectives, The Evaluation Company or WES; WES is recommended for health professions programs (Evaluation of college credit earned outside the U.S.).
Financial documents
An official bank statement or letter in English on bank letterhead (How to apply: international students).
Where it goes
F-1 documents through the online application system; evaluation reports to the Registration & Records Office (How to apply: international students, credit page).
Residents and immigrants
Anyone with high school or college study abroad may have it evaluated; ECC advising helps decide whether you need it (Evaluation of college credit earned outside the U.S.).
Two translation rules, one for admission and one for credit
For F-1 admission ECC asks for official secondary school transcripts and the graduation certificate or diploma, with an official English translation when they are not originally in English.
It accepts notarized copies, which may be sent electronically, and warns that translation or evaluation services may charge you a fee (how to apply). See high school diploma translation for what to include.
Applicants who did not finish secondary school can still apply at 17 or older with at least 11 years of secondary education.
For credit, the wording is stricter: a certified translator must translate the transcript before you submit it for evaluation (college credit earned outside the US). This page is not limited to F-1 students.
ECC invites anyone who studied in high school or college outside the US, including people changing careers, to consider an evaluation, and its advisors (847-214-7390) help decide whether one is needed.
Undocumented students are not treated as international students and apply through regular admission (admission procedure).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
ECC lists four companies and asks for a course-by-course or detailed report.
WES, which ECC recommends for health professions programs, wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations by applicants.
Educational Perspectives accepts translations from a reputable translation agency or a certified, professional translator.
ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, but ECC's own rule still asks for a certified translator.
The Evaluation Company, whose link on ECC's page includes a discount, accepts outside translators only if they are certified by the American Translators Association. eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA on request: ask for a free quote and say the translation is for a TEC evaluation for ECC.
After the evaluation
Bring the documentation from the evaluation company to the Registration & Records Office.
ECC's review takes about a week, you are notified by ECC student email, and the results appear in the accessECC portal; whether a course transfers is decided by the department that offers the similar course (Evaluation of college credit earned outside the U.S.).
Health professions applicants follow the same route for credit from another country (health professions).
Need a certified translation for ECC?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and the graduation certificate or diploma
- University transcripts and mark sheets, for a course-by-course or detailed evaluation
- Degree certificates, for the evaluation agency
- Course descriptions, if the agency or the department asks for them
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to ECC
F-1 applicants upload the records and their official English translations through ECC's online application system; questions go to international@elgin.edu or +1-847-214-7809 (How to apply: international students).
For foreign credit, send the certified translation with your records to the agency you choose, then bring the agency's report to Registration & Records (Evaluation of college credit earned outside the U.S.).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For ECC that means we translate your records before they go to the agency; the course-by-course or detailed evaluation comes from ECE, Educational Perspectives, The Evaluation Company or WES.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does ECC accept a translation from a translation company?
ECC's foreign credit page asks for a certified translator and its F-1 checklist for an official English translation (Evaluation of college credit earned outside the U.S.). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both.
Do I need an evaluation to be admitted to ECC?
No. The F-1 checklist asks for translated records; an evaluation is for credit from abroad (How to apply: international students).
Which evaluation agency should I use for a health program at ECC?
ECC recommends WES for health professions degree programs (Evaluation of college credit earned outside the U.S.).
Can I send notarized copies instead of originals?
Yes. ECC accepts notarized copies of school records and lets you submit them electronically (How to apply: international students).
Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for The Evaluation Company?
Yes, on request through a free quote; write in the notes that the translation is for a TEC evaluation for ECC. ATA certifies translators into English only for certain languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Chinese and Arabic.
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
