How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

East Tennessee State University asks international undergraduates for official transcripts sent by the issuing school and for English translations of all documents; it does not say who must translate.

East Tennessee State University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Credential evaluations are optional at ETSU and do not replace the original transcripts; if you order one from WES, TEC, IEE, Josef Silny or ECE, it comes from the agency, and we do not provide it.

ETSU at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

ETSU's international undergraduate page says English translations of all documents are required and does not restrict who translates (international undergraduate); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Policy checked on October 26, 2026.

ETSU requirements in detail

Translation

English translations of all documents (International undergraduate admission).

Who may translate

Official transcripts

Sent by the issuing secondary or post-secondary institution, by mail or email from the school; not from the student (International undergraduate admission).

Evaluation

Optional; approved: WES, The Evaluation Company, IEE, Josef Silny and ECE; evaluations do not substitute for original transcripts (International undergraduate admission).

Deadlines

Fall: apply by July 1, I-20 request by July 15. Spring: November 1 and November 15 (International undergraduate admission).

Translations required, evaluations optional

ETSU reads foreign records itself. Your school sends official transcripts directly, by mail or by its own email, and you provide English translations of all documents (International undergraduate admission).

First-year applicants send high school transcripts; transfers send transcripts from every post-secondary institution, with GPA thresholds that rise with credit hours.

Translate every page, including the high school diploma and grading scale.

An evaluation is not required. If you want one, ETSU approves WES, The Evaluation Company, IEE, Josef Silny and ECE, but an evaluation never replaces the original transcripts (International undergraduate admission).

WES accepts professional translators; TEC and Josef Silny ask for ATA-certified ones, which eVerbary can assign on request.

Need a certified translation for ETSU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • High school transcripts and diploma
  • Transcripts from every college or university attended
  • Degree certificates
  • Bank documents for the I-20, if not in English

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to ETSU

  • Send the English translations to International Enrollment and Services, P.O. Box 70668, Johnson City; the school sends the official transcripts itself (International undergraduate admission). On request we can email the translation directly to the admissions office.

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for ETSU, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For ETSU that means we translate your records; an optional evaluation is ordered by you from one of the approved companies.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does ETSU require translations of my transcripts?

Yes, English translations of all documents (International undergraduate admission).

Do I need a credential evaluation for ETSU?

No. Evaluations are optional and do not replace the original transcripts (International undergraduate admission).

Can I send my transcripts myself?

No. They must come from the issuing institution (International undergraduate admission).

When are the deadlines?

July 1 for fall and November 1 for spring (International undergraduate admission).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for ETSU?

Yes, on request, for example if you order an evaluation from TEC or Josef Silny. Ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for East Tennessee State University and needs a translator individually certified by ATA. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
