Dominican University New York asks for transcripts in English and, for schooling at an institution outside the US, a course-by-course translation and evaluation from any NACES evaluator; TEC is its preferred partner, and other services must be confirmed by email first.

Dominican University New York's evaluation agencies, such as WES, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the agency then writes the evaluation, which we do not provide.

Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

Dominican University New York requirements in detail

Translation

Transcripts must be in English; schooling outside the US needs a course-by-course translation and evaluation (International students). The translation is what the evaluator needs before it can evaluate a document not in English.

Who may translate

Not stated by Dominican; set by the evaluator. WES accepts a professional translation service; TEC accepts outside translators certified by ATA (see below).

Evaluation

Course-by-course, from any NACES-recognized evaluator; other evaluation types do not meet the requirement (International students).

Preferred agency

TEC (formerly SpanTran), with a custom, discounted application for Dominican; to use another service, email internationalstudents@duny.edu first (International students).

Complete application

Not complete without the course-by-course evaluation; degree equivalency is at the University's discretion (International students).

How to send

First-year: transcript, scores or proof of English instruction by email or mail. Graduate and transfer: transcript through the evaluation service (International students).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

Dominican accepts any NACES member but asks you to clear a non-TEC service by email before ordering (International students).

TEC, the preferred partner, accepts an outside translator only if certified by the American Translators Association, or translates in house after you apply; eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request through a free quote.

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency, and does not translate itself.

ECE, also a NACES member, lets applicants prepare their own word-for-word translations and sells an $85 Translation Waiver under which it translates internally; whichever agency you pick, ask Dominican first if it is not TEC.

Who needs the evaluation, and when

The rule applies to secondary, undergraduate and graduate study at an institution that is not regionally accredited as recognized by the US Department of Education, whether completed or still in progress (International students).

First-year applicants send their records by email or mail; graduate and transfer applicants send theirs through the evaluation service.

English proficiency can be shown without a test if your country's official language is English or you were taught in English, with a letter from each school confirming it.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificate
  • University transcripts, every year, for the course-by-course report
  • Degree certificates and diplomas
  • Grading scale printed with the transcripts

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Dominican University New York

  • The translation goes to the evaluator with your records; TEC, for example, takes uploads in its online application. The agency then sends the course-by-course report to Dominican.

  • eVerbary delivers a signed PDF; on request we can also email the translation directly to the admissions office.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Dominican University New York that means we translate your records for the evaluator; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from TEC or another NACES member Dominican has confirmed.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

What does Dominican University New York require for transcripts from abroad?

Transcripts in English plus a course-by-course translation and evaluation from a NACES evaluator (International students).

Can I use WES instead of TEC?

Dominican accepts any NACES evaluator but asks you to email internationalstudents@duny.edu first to confirm a service other than TEC (International students).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for TEC?

Yes, on request. Ask for a free quote and say it is for The Evaluation Company. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.

Is a general evaluation enough?

No. Dominican asks for the course-by-course option; other evaluation types do not meet its requirements (International students).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
