How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
Cypress College asks F-1 applicants to upload official high school and college transcripts in English, and gives credit for coursework from outside the US only through a detailed evaluation (courses, units and GPA) from an accredited service on the NACES list, turned in to Admissions and Records.
Cypress College's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and IERF, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
You order the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

Cypress College requirements in detail
Translation (F-1)
Official high school transcripts and college transcripts "in English" (International Students Program: F-1 admissions). For records in another language, the English version is a translation.
Who may translate
Not stated by Cypress; for credit, set by the evaluation agency (WES, ECE and IERF accept a professional service).
Where to upload
In the online International Student Application, reached from Apply Now on the college site (International Students Program: F-1 admissions).
Evaluation
For credit: a detailed report with course, unit and GPA breakdowns from an accredited service; agencies are listed by NACES (Cypress College catalog: native GE requirements, associate degree).
After the evaluation
Turn in the official evaluation to Admissions and Records, then see an academic counselor in your major (Cypress College catalog: transfer of credit).
Limits
Foreign coursework cannot be used for Cal-GETC (Cypress College catalog: transfer of credit).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
Cypress College leaves the choice of agency to you within the NACES list.
WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency or another professional service, and does not accept translations by applicants.
ECE asks for complete, literal, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, lets applicants prepare them themselves, and sells an $85 Translation Waiver under which it translates internally for the report.
IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations and does not require them to be notarized or sworn.
The catalog wording: an "evaluation and translation service"
The transfer of credit page asks for a transcript evaluated by an accredited evaluation and translation service, and the associate degree page specifies what the report must contain: a breakdown by course, units and GPA, so that credit toward an associate degree can be considered.
A general, document-by-document report is not enough. Ask the agency for its detailed or course-by-course report and send it the translation together with your records.
Credit decisions are made after the evaluation: Admissions and Records files the official evaluation in your record, and a counselor in your major then reviews the work.
Coursework from foreign institutions cannot be used for Cal-GETC, so check with a counselor whether the evaluation is worth its cost for your goal.

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Cypress College
For the F-1 application, upload the transcripts and their English translations in the online International Student Application (International Students Program: F-1 admissions).
For credit, the translation goes to the evaluation agency (WES, for example, takes it in your WES account); the official evaluation then goes to Cypress College Admissions and Records (Cypress College catalog: transfer of credit).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Cypress College that means we translate your records for the F-1 application and for the agency; the detailed evaluation is ordered by you from a NACES member after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Cypress College require a certified translation?
Its F-1 page asks for transcripts in English (International Students Program: F-1 admissions); for credit, the translation goes to the NACES agency, and WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).
Which evaluation agency should I use for Cypress College?
Any accredited service on the NACES list (Cypress College catalog: native GE requirements, associate degree). Ask for a detailed report with courses, units and GPA.
Can I translate my own transcripts for the evaluation?
It depends on the agency: ECE allows it, WES does not (ECE, WES).
Can foreign courses count toward Cal-GETC?
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
