How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Columbia College in Sonora publishes no translation rule and does not evaluate international transcripts itself: lower-division courses taken abroad are accepted if a member of NACES evaluates them, at the student's expense.

Columbia College's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and IERF, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You translate first and send the translation to the agency; the evaluation is something we do not provide.

NACES only

Columbia does not read international transcripts itself.

Lower division

No credit for upper-division courses.

6–8 weeks

For a Transfer Work Request.

Columbia College requirements in detail

Translation

No rule of its own; the translation is what the NACES agency needs before it can evaluate a record not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency. WES, ECE and IERF accept a professional translation.

Evaluation

By a NACES member, paid by the student; only lower-division international courses are accepted (Transfer credit).

What does not count

Developmental or skills classes, upper-division and extension courses (Transfer credit).

High school records

Required of new students only if they left high school five years ago or less (Official transcripts from other colleges (PDF)).

Delivery

Official transcripts in sealed envelopes to Admissions & Records in Sonora, or electronic copies from an ordering service to ccadmissions@yosemite.edu (transfer credit, transcripts).

Timing

A Transfer Work Request takes 6–8 weeks, depending on the time of year (Transfer credit).

How Columbia College counts studies abroad

Columbia College says plainly that it does not evaluate international transcripts.

Lower-division courses from another country count only when a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services has evaluated them, and the student pays for that evaluation.

Upper-division, developmental, skills and extension courses earn no credit wherever they were taken.

Transcripts on file are not evaluated automatically: you file a Transfer Work Request, either to clear prerequisites for specific classes or to have courses counted for credit, and it takes six to eight weeks (Transfer credit).

Order the NACES report early, ideally course by course, so prerequisites are cleared before registration.

New students who left high school five years ago or less also send high school transcripts (Official transcripts from other colleges (PDF)); for those, see high school diploma translation.

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

Any NACES member works, and each sets its own translation rule. WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations by applicants.

ECE accepts complete, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original, even your own, or sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally for the report.

IERF asks for typed, line-by-line, word-for-word translations and may require a professional one.

Columbia accepts official documents only in sealed, unopened envelopes, and they become the college's property (Official transcripts from other colleges (PDF)). Keep your own copies of the translation; the agency report is what goes to the college.

Need a certified translation for Columbia College?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • University or college transcripts, for the NACES evaluation
  • Degree certificates
  • High school transcripts, if you left school five years ago or less

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Columbia College

  • The translation goes to the NACES agency with your records. Have the agency send the evaluation to Columbia College, Attention: Admissions & Records, 11600 Columbia College Drive, Sonora, CA 95370, then file a Transfer Work Request (Transfer credit).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Columbia College that means we translate your records for the agency; the NACES evaluation is ordered and paid for by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
