How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Claremont Graduate University says that if your transcripts are not in English and you are not submitting a credential evaluation, you must provide an official English translation, issued by the institution, an educational ministry or government agency, or a certified translation service.

Claremont Graduate University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

You may instead submit transcripts through a NACES or AICE evaluation service, such as WES or The Evaluation Company, which we do not provide.

Worth knowing about CGU

Certified service

Named in CGU's own list of translators.

Or an evaluation

NACES or AICE, which counts as official.

Conferral date

Transcripts must show the degree awarded.

CGU requirements in detail

Translation

An official English translation, in an official format, when transcripts are not in English and no evaluation is submitted (Official transcript guidelines).

Who may translate

The institution, an educational ministry or government agency, or a certified translation service.

Evaluation

Optional alternative: transcripts submitted through a NACES or AICE agency, such as WES or The Evaluation Company (discounted CGU application), are considered official (Official transcript guidelines).

Official transcripts

Electronic from the institution to CGU admissions, or paper in the original sealed envelope (Official transcript guidelines).

Degree conferral

Transcripts must show the degree and conferral date, or come with an official diploma, degree verification or NACES/AICE evaluation (Official transcript guidelines).

Deadlines (international)

Spring: November 1 priority, November 15 final; summer: February 1 and March 1; fall: February 1 priority (International applicants).

Two ways to present foreign records at CGU

CGU's official transcript guidelines give two routes.

Either the issuing institution sends official transcripts, electronically or in its sealed envelope, and you add an official English translation from the institution, an educational ministry or government agency, or a certified translation service; or you submit your transcripts through a credential evaluation service accredited by NACES or AICE, which CGU treats as official.

CGU names WES and The Evaluation Company, with a discounted CGU application for the latter.

With the first route, eVerbary's certified translation is the official English translation.

With the second, the agency sets the translation rule: WES accepts professional translations and not translations by applicants, while The Evaluation Company accepts only ATA-certified translators or translates in-house; eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request.

Showing the degree

Whatever route you take, the transcript must clearly show the degree awarded and its conferral date.

If it does not, add an official diploma or certificate, an official degree verification from the issuing institution, or a NACES or AICE evaluation (Official transcript guidelines).

Translate the diploma too if it is not in English. International applicants have earlier final deadlines than domestic applicants to allow for visa processing (International applicants).

Need a certified translation for CGU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Bachelor's and master's transcripts or mark sheets
  • Diploma or degree certificate
  • Degree verification letter, if the transcript shows no conferral

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to CGU

  • Submit the certified translation with your application; the institution sends its official transcript to CGU admissions electronically or in a sealed envelope (Official transcript guidelines).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For CGU that means we translate your records; if you choose the evaluation route instead, the NACES or AICE evaluation is ordered by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does CGU accept a translation from a translation company?

Yes. Its guidelines name a certified translation service among those who may issue the translation (Official transcript guidelines).

Do I need a WES evaluation for CGU?

No, it is an alternative: an evaluation from a NACES or AICE member counts as official, but a certified translation of the institution's transcript also works (Official transcript guidelines).

What if my transcript does not show my degree?

Add an official diploma, degree verification or a NACES or AICE evaluation (Official transcript guidelines).

When is the fall deadline for international students?

February 1 is the priority deadline (International applicants).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
