How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
CSUN asks international freshmen, transfers and graduate applicants, and US residents with coursework from abroad, for all official academic records in the original language plus official English translations of all of them, including certificates, degrees and diplomas; it does not say who must translate.
California State University, Northridge accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
CSUN converts your grades itself, so no evaluation agency is involved; unofficial copies can be uploaded first, and the official records and translations are mailed to International Admissions.
CSUN at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
CSUN's international admission pages ask for "official English translations of all academic records" and do not restrict who makes them (international freshmen, domestic applicants with international transcripts); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. One rule for every applicant with records from abroad
CSUN repeats the same pair of items on each of its international pages: official academic records in the original language of issue, and official English translations of all academic records, including certificates, degrees and diplomas.
It applies to first-time freshmen, transfers and graduate applicants, and also to domestic applicants, meaning residents and citizens who do not need a visa but completed some high school, college or university coursework outside the US.
For freshmen the record set includes certificates, examination grades and the official verification of high school completion, so translate the exam results and the completion certificate, not only the transcript.
Because CSUN converts the international GPA itself, the translation is what the admissions advisor reads to compute it: grades, scales and course names should appear exactly as on the original, which is how we translate them.
Unofficial upload first, official documents by mail
CSUN lets you upload unofficial transcripts and translations to the CSUN Portal after you apply, which gives the office a head start; it then expects the official records and the official English translations by mail, together, to International Admissions (upload guide, Domestic applicants with international transcripts).
It accepts electronic transcripts sent by the school to registrar@csun.edu, wants US paper transcripts in sealed envelopes, and asks you not to fax records or translations.
In the portal, each document is a separate PDF; files combined into one are not processed, and uploads clear the checklist in about 10 business days.
Graduate applicants usually file two applications, one to CSUN and one to the program, and the program's deadline can be earlier than the university's June 15 document deadline for fall (International graduate students).

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to CSUN
Upload the certified translation, with the copy of the original, to Cal State Apply before you submit, or later to the CSUN Portal, as a separate PDF for each document (Upload international documents).
For the official set, CSUN wants translations mailed with the transcripts to International Admissions, 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330-8207 (Upload international documents). eVerbary can mail the translation to you in a sealed, signed envelope (choose the hard copy at checkout with your address, $19.95 Priority or $37.95 Express in the US), so you can send it with your records.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For CSUN that means we translate your records; the GPA conversion is done by CSUN itself.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my transcripts for CSUN?
CSUN asks for official English translations and does not say who must make them (International first-time freshmen). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
I am a US resident with a foreign high school diploma. Do I need translations?
Yes. CSUN applies the same rule to domestic applicants with international transcripts (Domestic applicants with international transcripts).
Can I upload my translation instead of mailing it?
You can upload unofficial copies to speed review, but official translations are mailed with your transcripts (Upload international documents).
Do I need a WES or ECE evaluation for CSUN?
Not for admission; CSUN converts your international GPA (International first-time freshmen).
What is the document deadline?
June 15 for fall and November 15 for spring; graduate programs may be earlier (International first-time freshmen, graduate).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
