Graduate applicants send at least 6 semesters of grades.
CSULB requirements in detail
Translation
Original and certified English copies of transcripts, for transfer and graduate applicants (International: transfer admissions requirements, International: graduate admissions requirements).
Who may translate
Not restricted; CSULB links to ATA and NCTA to find translation agencies in California (International: application and document deadlines).
Unofficial or official
Documents from non-US institutions may be submitted officially or unofficially; unofficial ones go to the International Admissions Document Portal (International: application and document deadlines).
Official delivery
Mailed to International Admissions, or emailed by the school's registrar (International: application and document deadlines).
What the transcripts must show
First-year: grade 12 first-semester grades; transfer: all grades and courses in progress; graduate: at least 6 semesters, or final transcripts and the degree certificate (International: application and document deadlines).
Graduate specifics
Individual mark sheets, not consolidated ones; 3-year bachelor's degrees are reviewed for equivalency, with a WES questionnaire suggested (International: graduate admissions requirements).
Applicants from India
Must include individual mark sheets (International: application and document deadlines).
Certified English copies, and where CSULB sends you to find them
CSULB's international transfer and graduate pages use the same phrase: submit the original and certified English copies of transcripts (or individual mark sheets) from every institution attended.
Its application documents page goes a step further than most CSU campuses and links, for convenience, to translation agencies in California through the American Translators Association and the Northern California Translators Association. eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062).
The same page lets you start with copies: documents from non-US institutions may be submitted officially or unofficially, and you receive a direct link to the International Admissions Document Portal to upload the unofficial ones.
Official documents are mailed to International Admissions in Long Beach or emailed by your school's registrar; transcripts from US institutions must always be official.
What each level must show
CSULB asks for transcripts at a set point: first-year applicants with the first semester of grade 12, transfers with all grades and courses in progress, and graduate applicants with at least 6 semesters of grades, or final transcripts and the degree certificate if they have graduated (International: application and document deadlines).
Graduate applicants who send consolidated mark sheets will be asked for individual ones before the evaluation is completed, and holders of 3-year bachelor's degrees, for example from India, are encouraged to check equivalency with a WES questionnaire, while CSULB makes the final decision (International: graduate admissions requirements).
Translate every mark sheet you upload, not only the consolidated one. For the systemwide rule, see Cal State translation requirements.
Need a certified translation for CSULB?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- University transcripts or individual mark sheets, every semester
- Degree certificate and diploma
- Secondary school transcripts, for first-year applicants
- Secondary school leaving certificate or diploma
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to CSULB
Upload the translation with the copy of the original to the International Admissions Document Portal while the application is under review (International: application and document deadlines).
If you are admitted, the official records come from your school by mail or registrar email (International: application and document deadlines); we can send the translation directly to the admissions office by email on request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For CSULB that means we translate your transcripts, mark sheets and degree certificates; the official records must come from your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions

Can I upload unofficial documents first?
Yes, for non-US institutions, through the International Admissions Document Portal (International: application and document deadlines).
Do I need individual mark sheets?
Graduate applicants with consolidated mark sheets will be asked for individual ones, and applicants from India must include them (International: graduate admissions requirements, International: application and document deadlines).
Do I need a WES evaluation for CSULB?
No. International Admissions makes a preliminary evaluation of your coursework itself; WES is suggested only as a questionnaire for 3-year degrees (International: graduate admissions requirements).
