How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Cal Poly requires every official transcript to be submitted in the native language and accompanied by a certified English translation, sent directly by the schools; it does not say who must translate.

Cal Poly accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Its only evaluator is WES: transfer applicants always send a WES course-by-course report, and first-year and graduate applicants send a document-by-document report only if Cal Poly asks, an evaluation we do not provide.

Cal Poly at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Cal Poly asks for official transcripts in the native language "accompanied by a certified English translation" (transcripts for international applicants) and does not restrict who translates; a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation, and WES, Cal Poly's evaluator, accepts one too (WES rule). Cal Poly requirements in detail

Translation

All official transcripts in the native language with a certified English translation (Cal Poly: transcripts for international undergraduate applicants).

Who may translate

Not stated.

Official delivery

Sent directly by the schools: electronically (Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse and others), by institutional email to cptrans1@calpoly.edu, or by mail; send them only after you apply (Cal Poly: transcripts for international undergraduate applicants).

Evaluation

WES only: first-year and graduate applicants a Document-by-Document report if notified; transfers a Course-by-Course report, always (international academic evaluations).

Recognition rule

Your international university must be recognized by the International Association of Universities (Cal Poly: international academic evaluations).

Country credentials

A country-by-country list of the secondary credential expected, such as the Gaokao for China or the Bachillerato for Mexico (country-based entry requirements).

Deadline

All support documents by Feb. 15 (Jan. 31 for Art and Design, Music and transfer Architecture) (dates and deadlines).

The original language and the translation, together

Cal Poly does not accept an English version in place of the original: every official transcript is submitted in the native language and accompanied by a certified English translation (Cal Poly: transcripts for international undergraduate applicants).

First-year applicants send records for grades 9–11, including in-progress fall work, and IB students their predicted scores; transfer applicants send every college and secondary record showing all coursework and any certificates or degrees.

Transcripts come directly from the schools, and Cal Poly asks you not to send them before you have applied.

The country-based entry requirements tell you which credential Cal Poly expects: for example the Senior Middle School Diploma (required) and the Gaokao (preferred) for China, the Bachillerato and the Prueba de Acceso for Mexico, the Higher Secondary School Certificate for India and the Certificate of Secondary School Graduation for Vietnam.

Translate the credential on that list with the transcript, not only the transcript.

WES, and which report to order

Cal Poly names one evaluator, World Education Services, and the report depends on your status: Document-by-Document for first-year and graduate applicants, Course-by-Course for transfers; WES sends it directly to Cal Poly (Cal Poly: international academic evaluations).

Transfers must always submit it; first-year and graduate applicants are notified by email and see it on their My Cal Poly Portal To-Do list.

WES asks for an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations by applicants, so the certified translation you prepare for Cal Poly can also go to WES.

Need a certified translation for Cal Poly?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary transcripts for grades 9–11
  • National exam certificates on Cal Poly's country list
  • University transcripts, certificates and degrees (transfer and graduate)

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Cal Poly that means we translate your transcripts and national exam certificates; the WES report is ordered by you after the translation.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cal Poly accept translations from a translation company?

Its rule asks for a certified English translation and does not say who must make it (Cal Poly: transcripts for international undergraduate applicants). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Do I need a WES evaluation for Cal Poly?

Transfers always do (Course-by-Course); first-year and graduate applicants only if notified (Document-by-Document) (Cal Poly: international academic evaluations).

Can I use an evaluator other than WES?

Cal Poly names only WES (Cal Poly: international academic evaluations).

Which secondary credential does Cal Poly expect from my country?

See its country-based entry requirements, for example the Bachillerato for Mexico or the Senior Middle School Diploma for China (Cal Poly: country-based entry requirements).

When must my documents arrive?

By Feb. 15, or Jan. 31 for Art and Design, Music and transfer Architecture (Cal Poly: international dates and deadlines).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
