How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD asks the parent or guardian to have school records from abroad translated into English, unless they are in Spanish, and to upload them with the online registration.

It does not say who must make the translation, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets the rule.

For grades 9 to 12 the high school Guidance & Counseling Office then reviews the foreign records to decide grade classification, course credit and English support; eVerbary translates the records but does not take part in that decision.

Cy-Fair ISD requirements in detail

Translation

The parent or guardian is responsible for having school records translated into English, unless they are in Spanish (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

Who may translate

Not specified. The district asks for English records without naming a translator or requiring certification (Cy-Fair ISD: International students); a certified translation from a professional service satisfies the rule.

Who the process covers

Students whose last school was outside the United States, including American international schools, Puerto Rico and the West Indies (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

How to submit

All documents are uploaded to the online Registration Application when you start enrollment at the school zoned to your address (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

Credit or placement

For grades 9 to 12, the high school Guidance & Counseling Office meets the family to review all foreign academic documents and decide classification status, course credit and English language support; language testing may come first (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

Grades 1 to 8

Students register at their assigned campus; for students entering grades 7 and 8, academic records are reviewed for possible high school credit (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

Documents at registration

A certified copy of the birth certificate, a current immunization record, a parent photo ID, proof of residency, a Social Security card if available, and a report card or transcript from the last school (Cy-Fair ISD: Registration requirements).

Foreign exchange students

A separate track: the student provides an English translation of the immunization report with the full date of every required shot, and the prior transcript is evaluated for grade level and courses (Cy-Fair ISD: Foreign exchange students).

Three steps for high school students from abroad

Cy-Fair ISD registers students in grades 9 to 12 whose last school was outside the United States in three steps (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

First, the family starts online enrollment, chooses the school zoned to its address and uploads every document to the Registration Application; this is where the English translation belongs.

Second, once the Registrar's Office has verified the documents, it contacts the coordinator of the high school Guidance & Counseling Office, which sets an appointment with the family to review the foreign academic records.

Third, student and parent return to the campus to finish registration with the Registrar and the counseling office.

The counseling appointment decides three things at once: the student's classification (the grade level), the course credit awarded, and the English language support the student receives.

Initial language testing may happen before it (Cy-Fair ISD: International students). Because the Registrar verifies documents before the referral, uploading the translations with the originals at the start keeps the file moving.

Spanish records, and everything else

The district's note is specific: the parent or guardian translates school records into English "other than Spanish" (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

Report cards and transcripts in Spanish, from Mexico, Central or South America or Puerto Rico, can go in as issued. Records in Portuguese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Chinese, French or any other language need an English translation.

Counselors award credit course by course, so the translation has to keep every subject, every year, the hours where the record shows them, and the grading scale printed on the document.

We translate marks exactly as recorded and never convert them to a US GPA; the counseling office makes that comparison itself.

Middle school and exchange students

Students entering grades 1 to 8 register at their assigned campus rather than through the high school process, but records of students entering grades 7 and 8 are reviewed for possible high school credit (Cy-Fair ISD: International students), so a translated report card matters there too.

Foreign exchange students follow different rules: they are approved first by the district's student admissions office, must supply an English translation of their immunization report showing the month, day and year of each required immunization, and have their prior transcript evaluated for grade level and courses, which is not transcribed onto a CFISD record unless they graduate from the district (Cy-Fair ISD: Foreign exchange students).

Need a certified translation for Cy-Fair ISD?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents families usually translate

  • Report cards and transcripts for every high school year completed abroad
  • Report cards from the last school year, for students entering grades 7 and 8
  • Immunization records, cards or booklets
  • Birth certificates issued abroad
  • School leaving or transfer certificates from the last school

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to Cy-Fair ISD

  • Upload the translation together with a scan of the original record to the online Registration Application when you start enrollment (Cy-Fair ISD: International students). Have both at hand for the counseling appointment, where the foreign records are reviewed.

  • For questions about a student whose last school was in another country, the district lists InternationalStudentAdmissions@cfisd.net and (281) 517-2691 (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

What we do not do

eVerbary translates documents; it is not the school district, and it does not decide grade placement or credit. Interpreters for meetings with the school are a separate service: see interpreters for parent-teacher conferences.

For Cy-Fair ISD that means we translate the records; the grade classification, course credit and English support are decided by the high school Guidance & Counseling Office.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to translate my child's school records for Cy-Fair ISD?

Yes, unless they are in English or Spanish. The district makes the parent or guardian responsible for translating school records into English, other than Spanish (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

Who can translate the records?

Cy-Fair ISD does not say who must translate them (Cy-Fair ISD: International students). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary, with a signed certificate of accuracy, meets the rule.

Does Cy-Fair ISD require a credential evaluation from an agency?

Its published process does not name one. For grades 9 to 12, the high school Guidance & Counseling Office reviews the foreign records itself to decide classification and credit (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

My child is entering 8th grade. Do the records matter?

Yes. Records of students entering grades 7 and 8 are reviewed for possible high school credit (Cy-Fair ISD: International students).

Does the immunization record need a translation?

The general registration list asks for a current immunization record (Cy-Fair ISD: Registration requirements); the explicit English-translation rule for immunizations is on the foreign exchange page (Cy-Fair ISD: Foreign exchange students). If your child's record is not in English or Spanish, ask the campus whether it needs one.
