How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

Nebraska requires a complete English translation of any document not in English, as an original document carrying the translator's notarized or equivalent signature, and an applicant may not translate their own documents.

A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary, notarized, meets that rule.

Nurses educated outside the US or Canada also need a transcript evaluation sent by TruMerit, ERES or Josef Silny & Associates, each with its own translation rule, and we do not provide that evaluation.

Nebraska BON at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

The RN/LPN application instructions require a complete English translation that is an original document with the translator's notarized or equivalent signature, and bar only self-translation (exam application, endorsement application), so a certified, notarized translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Worth knowing about Nebraska BON

Three CES agencies

TruMerit, ERES or Josef Silny evaluate your transcript.

Nebraska BON requirements in detail

Translation

Any document not in English must include a complete English translation (RN/LPN application by examination).

Who may translate

Anyone except the applicant; the translation must carry the translator's notarized or equivalent signature (RN/LPN application by examination).

Original or copy

The translation itself must be an original document, not a photocopy (RN/LPN application by examination).

Evaluation

Graduates of programs outside the US or Canada, by exam or endorsement, have a transcript evaluation sent to the office by TruMerit, ERES or Josef Silny & Associates (Foreign-educated nurses).

English test

TOEFL iBT 84 (speaking 26), IELTS Academic 6.5 (6.0 per module), TOEIC, MET, PTE Academic or OET; Duolingo is not accepted (Foreign-educated nurses).

Notarization

Part of the rule: "notarized or equivalent signature of the translator" (RN/LPN application by examination). eVerbary adds it at checkout for $34.90 per order.

How to submit

Exam applications go by mail to the DHHS Licensure Unit, Nursing Section, PO Box 94986, Lincoln NE 68509-4986 (RN/LPN application by examination).

Two different translation rules in one file

Nebraska's own rule covers the documents you send to the Licensure Unit with your application: a complete translation, an original rather than a copy, with the translator's notarized or equivalent signature, and never made by the applicant (exam, endorsement).

That typically means a name-change document, a foreign license or anything else in another language that you attach yourself.

Your nursing transcript takes another path: it is evaluated by one of the three Credential Evaluation Services the Board lists, and the agency sends its report to the office (Foreign-educated nurses).

Each agency sets its own translation rule.

ERES accepts certified English translations submitted with the original-language documents (ERES); Josef Silny accepts outside translations made in the US only from ATA-certified translators (JS&A); TruMerit wants nursing transcripts translated by the school or by TruMerit itself (TruMerit).

Exam or endorsement

By examination, graduates of a non-English-speaking nursing program must also send English test results (Foreign-educated nurses).

By endorsement, the English test applies if you come from a non-English-speaking jurisdiction and have not worked in an English-speaking setting in the past two years; the endorsement instructions repeat the same translation paragraph (RN/LPN application by endorsement).

Applications by exam and by endorsement are separate forms on the Board's applications page; temporary licenses are available only to endorsement applicants with an active license in another state.

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
  • Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.

Submitting the translation to Nebraska BON

  • Translations you attach yourself go to the Licensure Unit with the paper application, signed and notarized, as an original (RN/LPN application by examination).

Translations of transcripts go to the evaluation agency you choose, under its instructions; the agency then sends the evaluation to the Board (Foreign-educated nurses).

  • eVerbary can mail the translation to you in a sealed, signed envelope: choose the hard copy and notarization at checkout with your address ($19.95 Priority or $37.95 Express in the US, $49.95 or $78.95 to other countries) and write in the order notes that it is for the Nebraska Board of Nursing.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.

For Nebraska that means we translate and notarize your documents; the transcript evaluation comes from TruMerit, ERES or Josef Silny, ordered by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
