Montana Board of Nursing: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Yes, through the evaluation: Montana BON asks for a credential evaluation, and IEE, one of the agencies it accepts, takes certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Credential evaluation: TruMerit, JS&A or IEE only
- $24.95 per page
- Usually 24 h for 1–3 pages
- Signed certificate of accuracy, PDF
- See the price before you pay
How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The Montana Board of Nursing has no translation rule of its own: internationally educated nurses without a license in another US state need a credential evaluation from TruMerit (formerly CGFNS), Josef Silny & Associates (JS&A) or International Education Evaluations (IEE), and no other agency.
IEE asks for certified English translations of nursing transcripts and accepts certified translators, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary fits IEE's rule; JS&A takes outside US translations from ATA-certified translators, whom eVerbary assigns on request, and TruMerit has the school or itself translate.
We translate your records for the agency; we do not order the evaluation, and transcripts the Board wants from your school still come from your school.
Montana BON at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Montana accepts evaluations from TruMerit, JS&A or IEE (RN license page), and IEE asks for transcripts with certified English translations (IEE nursing guide) and refuses only translations by the applicant, a notary or an uncertified translator (IEE FAQ), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets IEE's rule. Montana BON requirements in detail
Translation
The Board publishes no translation rule; the evaluation agency sets it (Registered nurse license information).
Who may translate
Evaluation
Required if you do not hold a license in another US state: TruMerit CES, JS&A Nursing Evaluation or IEE Nursing Evaluation, sent from the source (Registered nurse license information, checklist).
Transcript
An official transcript sent directly by the school, showing the degree and date conferred (RN by examination checklist, updated 3-3-25).
English proficiency
A new rule requires a Board-specified English exam of internationally educated applicants not educated in English or whose native language is not English; applicants from September 26, 2026 receive the accepted exams by email after November 18, 2026 (Montana Board of Nursing home page).
Who counts as international
Anyone educated outside the United States, including in Canada (Montana Board of Nursing FAQ).
IEE report for Montana
IEE has a Montana Nursing Licensure Report (RN or LPN) at $395, quoted at five days or less (IEE).
Which agency, and who translates for it
Montana names three agencies and says it is not accepting evaluations from any other credential review agency (Registered nurse license information). Their translation rules differ.
IEE's nursing guide asks for official transcripts with certified English translations if they are not in English, uploaded through its portal (IEE: nursing credential evaluation guide); its FAQ refuses translations by the client, a notary public or an uncertified translator (IEE: FAQ).
JS&A's application for boards of nursing, which lists Montana, asks for professional, certified English translations (JS&A: application for boards of nursing), and its services page requires ATA-certified translators for outside translations made in the US (JS&A: services and translations); see the ATA section below.
TruMerit's CES Professional Report wants nursing transcripts translated by the school or by TruMerit for a fee (TruMerit: CES Professional Report).
A new English exam rule, still being defined
The Board adopted a rule requiring all internationally educated applicants who were not educated in English, or whose native language is not English, to pass an English proficiency exam, but it had not yet chosen the exams; it will do so at its November 18, 2026 meeting and email applicants who applied from September 26, 2026 (Montana Board of Nursing home page).
The translation of your records is separate from that exam and does not replace it.
Canadian graduates and the RN checklist
Montana treats any applicant educated outside the United States as internationally educated, including a Montana resident who studied in Canada (Montana Board of Nursing FAQ).
The RN by examination checklist, updated in March 2025, asks internationally educated applicants for the credential review report from source, along with the transcript from the school, NCLEX registration and a fingerprint-based background check (RN by examination checklist, updated 3-3-25).
Need a certified translation for Montana BON?

Documents applicants usually translate
- Nursing school transcripts, with clinical hours and grades
- Nursing diploma or degree certificate
- Nursing license or registration from the country of education
- Course descriptions for the nursing program
- Secondary school diploma, if the agency asks for it
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to Montana BON
For IEE, upload the scanned transcripts and the certified translations through IEE's portal when you order the Montana report (IEE: nursing credential evaluation guide, IEE Montana page).
For JS&A, the translation goes with your signed application while your school sends its records directly (JS&A: application for boards of nursing).
The agency sends the report to the Board; you apply for the license online through the state licensing portal (RN by examination checklist, updated 3-3-25).
If you need a translator certified by ATA
Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:
$34.95 per page
Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian
$44.95 per page
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian
To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Montana BON, what it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).
We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.
For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.
For Montana that means we translate your nursing records for IEE or JS&A; we do not order the evaluation or the English exam, and we cannot send transcripts on behalf of your school.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
